Abuja Landlords: Outrageous Rent Increases at Resident’s Expense

Residents of Abuja are facing a harsh reality: skyrocketing house rents despite stagnant salaries. Landlord are taking advantage of gullible tenants, increasing rents without regard for the economic struggles of ordinary people.

This house increment trend is breeding more corruption and crime in society. It may resort to illicit means to cope with the financial strain. It’s time for the government to intervene.

The relevant authorities, such as the Abuja Municipal Council and the Federal Capital Territory Administration, must regulate rents and protect tenants from exploitation. We urge them to take immediate action to address this issue.

Abuja residents are tired of these unfair rent increases. Balance to strike between landlord’s rights and tenant’s income. We need a fair and just system that considers the economic realities of both parties.

We call on the government to put the welfare of Abuja residents and take concrete steps to address this pressing issue. It’s time to put an end to the greed of landlords and ensure affordable housing for all.

ā€œI believe its a topic most Nigerians have little or no idea about, its the tiers of government responsibility and roles they owe to the people and how the people can hold them accountable to their actions.
I would like to start with the smallest unit of governance.

In Nigeria, governance is structured under three tiers of government:

Federal Government

State Government

Local Government

The smallest unit of governance in this structure is the Local Government Area (LGA).

So basically, the Local Government is the closest level of government to us. Think of it as the ā€œgrassroots governmentā€ that’s supposed to handle the everyday things we see and use.

So the question is who do you hold responsible for no water in your area or no good road in your area or poor primary healthcare? Is it the president first or the local government chairman whom you appointed to oversee your needs and receive allocation from the government

So how do we hold them responsible because we don’t do that here in Nigeria we haven’t seen where we drag the local government chairman online or protest in the local government’s name or petition for them to be removed but we rush to the highest level where truthfully we can barely scratch the surface of our problem.ā€
