K!llings and K!dnappings in Nigeria
Our hearts are heavy. The k!llings and k!dnappings happening across Nigeria are painful, unjust, and deeply heartbreaking. No family should have to live in fear, and no community should endure such constant trauma.
We condemn these acts in the strongest terms. Every life taken is a wound to our nation, and every person abducted is a reminder that we must not remain silent.
To Nigerians everywhere:
Please stay strong. Support one another. Hold on to hope, even when it feels difficult. Our resilience as a people is powerful, and together we can overcome these dark moments.
We stand with all victims, and we continue to call for urgent, meaningful action from our government to restore peace and protect every Nigerian life. Enough of the k!llings!!!! These are lives, not pages.

PRESS RELEASE

13th November 2025

ABIA STATE BBI TEAM RECORDS MULTIPLE DEFILEMENT CASES.

The Behind Bars Human Rights Defenders Abia state Chapter has intensified its crackdown on sexual offenders following a disturbing rise in defilement cases across Abia State.

In addition to these cases, yesterday the Gender Based Unit of the State SCID charged over twelve (12) suspects connected to various defilement offences in the state all suspects were arraigned in court and remanded pending further judicial action.

JUSTICE FOR OUR CHILDREN IN ABIA STATE!

It breaks my heart that in our dear Abia State, we rarely hear the good news that a pa******le or child abuser has been sentenced.

Too often, once suspects are charged in magistrate court, their family members and sponsors rush to the high court to secure bail. Before we know it, they’re released and the very people who helped expose the crime become the ones being threatened or attacked. πŸ’”

Right now, we are calling for justice in three heartbreaking cases currently with the Gender Desk, State CID Umuahia Abia state

1️⃣ A landlord from Ukwa West who allegedly defiled a 12-year-old girl.
2️⃣ A local vigilante in Olokoro, Umuahia South, who allegedly defiled a 10-year-old girl.
3️⃣ A student pastor from AGDSN, Old Umuahia, accused of defiling a minor.

We, the Human Rights Defenders under the leadership of Dr Harrison Gwamnishu are appealing to the Hon. Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abia State,
to:
βš–οΈ Ensure these cases are diligently prosecuted.
🚫 Stop any unlawful bail or interference.
πŸ§’ Protect the survivors and activists who are facing intimidation for seeking justice.
🀝 Work with NAPTIP and the Ministry of Women Affairs to strengthen the fight against child defilement and trafficking in Abia State.

Our children deserve protection, not silence.
Our justice system must serve the innocent, not the powerful.

We say NO to secret settlements.
We say NO to intimidation.
We say YES to justice!

Let’s stand together for every child whose voice has been silenced. Let’s demand accountability and show that Abia will no longer tolerate such evil acts.

πŸ“’ Join us in this call:

BEHIND BARS HUMAN RIGHTS FOUNDATION (BBI)
Abia State Chapter

There are people who choose to stand up when others stay silent. People who defend the truth, protect the weak, and speak for those who cannot.

Those people are the men and women of Behind Bars Human Rights Foundation, Abia State Chapter.

Our mission is simple but powerful: to make sure that every Abia resident enjoys their rights without fear, and that justice is not a privilege for a few, but a right for all.

We work through long days and tough nights. Whether it’s the scorching sun, heavy rain, or the quiet hours of the night, we remain on duty, reaching out to those who need help the most.

We do not do it for praise or reward. We do it because we believe in humanity, in compassion, fairness, and the value of every life.

So we say to you, fellow residents
if you see something wrong, speak up.

Your voice can make a difference. Together, we can build an Abia where justice lives in every street, and human rights are everyone’s concern.

Behind Bars Human Rights Foundation (BBI) Abia State Chapter
Standing firm for justice. Standing tall for you.
