Rural women are essential to food security and environmental sustainability. Through farming, seed preservation and the management of natural resources, they help nourish communities while caring for the land.

This year’s theme, *“Rural Women Farmers Caring for Mother Nature,”* recognises their contributions and the importance of ensuring they have access to the land, resources and opportunities they need to thrive.

Every 3 seconds, a girl somewhere in the world is married before the age of 18.

That is approximately 12 million girls every year, whose childhoods and futures are put at risk.

Child marriage can interrupt education, expose girls to early pregnancy and violence, and limit their ability to make decisions about their own lives. In Nigeria, 1 in 3 young women were married before their 18th birthday, according to the 2024 Demographic and Health Survey.

Ending child marriage requires more than raising awareness. It means keeping girls in school, protecting their rights, challenging harmful social norms and ensuring families and communities have the support needed to give every girl a fair chance at the future she deserves.

This International Day of the Girl Child, GERI stands with the call to end child marriage and invest in girls’ rights.

Sometimes, the most important thing we can do is listen.

Behind every experience of mental health challenges is a person whose voice, story and needs deserve to be taken seriously. Listening is a start, but real change happens when people are included in decisions that affect their lives.

This World Mental Health Day, let’s move beyond hearing people’s stories to making sure their voices shape the support, policies and services they need.

This Independence Day, we celebrate the people who make our communities stronger and keep working towards a more resilient Nigeria where no one is left behind.
