We condemn this viral video from King Dinuzulu Hospital, South Africa where a nurse was physically assaulting a patient. We welcome the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health’s decision to place the nurse on suspension with immediate effect pending a full investigation.

Violence and Physical aggression towards towards service users is unacceptable and contrary to the core values of nursing. All patients and staff deserve dignity and respectful care. We support accountability and will continue to advocate for professional standards and a supportive working environment for nurses.
Nurses, what's your take on this? We can confirm that the nurse in question has been suspended with immediate effect. Do you think this is too much or she deserves it?

This simulation offers a practical look at the physiological process of childbirth, helping us understand what happens before, during, and immediately after birth.

For student nurses, midwives, and healthcare professionals, simulations like this provide an opportunity to connect theory with practice, strengthen clinical skills, and better understand the care required to support both mother and baby.

💬 What part of the birth process would you like us to explain in more detail?

🩺 TODAY IN NURSING HISTORY | AUGUST 19

August 19, 1921

A milestone in the history of Black nursing.

On this day, five African American nurses, led by Carrie Early Broadfoot came together during the convention of the National Association of Colored Graduate Nurses in Washington, D.C., and formed the North Carolina Association of Colored Graduate Nurses (NCACGN).

At a time when racial discrimination and segregation limited opportunities for Black nurses, the NCACGN provided a platform for professional development, leadership, advocacy, education, and improved standards of nursing practice.

🩺 They didn't just care for patients. They helped change the nursing profession.

The NCACGN continued advocating for Black nurses until 1949, when it merged with the North Carolina Nurses Association (NCNA).

This followed changes within the NCNA that removed racial barriers and allowed Black nurses to participate in the state's broader professional nursing organization. The merger reflected a significant step toward greater integration and equality within North Carolina's nursing profession.

Today, the North Carolina Nurses Association (NCNA) continues as a professional organization representing nurses across the state, carrying forward a broader legacy of nursing advocacy, professional development, leadership, and excellence.

From the NCACGN of 1921 to the NCNA of today, the journey reminds us that progress in nursing has been shaped not only by clinical care, but also by nurses who stood up for equity, opportunity, and professional advancement.

If you could speak to the five nurses who helped establish the NCACGN in 1921, what would you say to them?

🌍Happy World Humanitarian Day 2026

Humanity is not defined by what we have, but by what we are willing to give. Every act of kindness, every helping hand, and every life touched has made the world a better place.

Today, we honour the people who serve, sacrifice, and stand with communities in times of need. May we continue to turn compassion into action and hope into lasting impact. 💚

Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can leave no one behind.

The nursing profession deserves better than constant disrespect, poor remuneration, and systems that push qualified nurses to the point of leaving.

While nurses continue to migrate in search of better opportunities, the solution cannot be to undermine the professionals who remain or create unnecessary divisions within the healthcare workforce.

Nurses deserve fair pay, safe working conditions, career growth, professional respect, and the resources to provide quality care.
The question is when will we stop normalising the challenges driving nurses out and start fixing the system?
