Gender Development Initiative (GenDi)

Gender Development Initiative (GenDi) Gender Development Initiative Vision was further enhanced by interactions with a group of grass root women in Leme area of Abeokuta South Local Government Area.

Gender Development Initiative (GenDi) is a Non–Governmental, Non Profit making, Non-Partisan and Non- Religious organisation committed to the empowerment of disadvantaged girls and women in our society. The first vision started on July 16, 2006, as inspired by the outcome of the Ph.D research thesis of the Chairperson – a research on the socio-economic factors affecting girl-child empowerment in s

elected agrarian communities of Nigeria sponsored by CODESRIA (2005). Prior to this period, there were some forms of assistance to needy women here and there; though an un-coordinated efforts towards providing basic needs to needy individuals in the society. As much as one tried, it became more and more evident that a lot more needed to be done. Hence, the team stared mobilizing support for women and girls. Many individuals as well as bodies have benefitted from this dream. A lot of people initially perceived this venture initially as “Dr. Mrs. Initiative” and overtime got familiar with the team as well as the name “Gender Development Initiative”.

As we advance Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), we celebrate dads who protect dreams, provide love, and champion the well-being of women, girls, and young people.

Gender Development Initiative (GenDi) and NYCN are collaborating on women’s health through community-driven sexual and reproductive health education, GBV prevention, and youth-led advocacy, using storytelling platforms to break stigma and expand access to accurate health information. This partnership is amplified through the Àjose campaign, which uses film, dialogue, and digital media to promote informed conversations on women’s health and bodily autonomy.
