AMIM Strengthening Malaysia’s Maritime Presence in the United Arab Emirates

AMIM recently completed a one week working trip to Abu Dhabi and Dubai as part of MATRADE’s Export Acceleration Mission. It was a meaningful opportunity for our team and AMIM members to learn, build networks and explore new possibilities for Malaysia’s shipbuilding and ship repair industry.

During the mission, we visited several leading shipyards including MBK Shipyard, Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), Drydocks World Dubai and Albwardy Damen. These visits gave us valuable insights into composite boatbuilding, aluminium construction, naval work and large scale repair operations in the Gulf.

We also took part in business meetings at ADIPEC, the UAE Green Maritime programme and B2B sessions held in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Many of our members met with seven to ten companies, allowing us to understand the needs of the Middle East market and the opportunities for collaboration.

The Malaysian Pavilion at ADIPEC was officially launched by the Ambassador of Malaysia to the UAE, and the mission concluded with a networking dinner with Malaysian delegates and UAE industry partners.

AMIM extends our appreciation to the AMIM members who joined and supported this mission, especially:
Lumut Naval Shipyard
Mega Salutes Ship Design Sdn Bhd (MS Ship Design)
Marine Dieselcare Engineering
GIMHwak Shipyard Sdn. Bhd.
Shin Yang Shipyard Sdn Bhd

This mission strengthened Malaysia’s visibility in the region and opened doors for future cooperation, particularly in small and medium sized vessels, component supply and ship repair services.
AMIM thanks Malaysia External Trade Development Corporate (Matrade) and MATRADE Dubai for the excellent support throughout the programme.

Malaysia’s SBSR industry will continue to grow through learning, partnership and global engagement.

AMIM Annual Dinner 2025 – A Night to Remember

27th September 2025 - Association of Marine Industries of Malaysia (AMIM) gathered more than 450 guests at Le Meridien Putrajaya to celebrate our Annual Dinner 2025, an evening filled with camaraderie, laughter, and meaningful conversations across the maritime community.

Our President, Mr Adren Siow, opened the evening by reaffirming AMIM’s mission to protect members’ interests and champion the growth of Malaysia’s Shipbuilding and Ship Repair (SBSR) industry. He also shared updates on the challenges faced by the sector including the impact of the new SST expansion and called for stronger collaboration between industry and government to ensure Malaysia remains a competitive maritime nation.

We were honoured by the presence of our Guest of Honour, YB Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister of MITI, who delivered an insightful keynote on Malaysia’s maritime heritage and future direction. YB Liew highlighted opportunities in decarbonisation, artificial intelligence, and unmanned technologies, while encouraging AMIM to continue its proactive advocacy and policy work for the industry.

The evening closed with appreciation to our members, partners, and sponsors for their strong support and a big shout-out to Dato’ Alexander Isaac and the Tropical Charters Langkawi - Day and Sunset Cruise (Tropical Charters Sdn Bhd) team for sponsoring the Grand Prize Lucky Draw: a Private Sunset Dinner Cruise for six (VVIP Package), worth RM 7,000! 🌅
