Pro Sayulita

Pro Sayulita Back in 2005, when Pro Sayulita was founded, the most pressing need was catalyst funding for the town’s Waste Water Treatment Plant.

Our mission is to provide a safe and healthy environment for visitors, residents and businesses; working with groups and local associations on ecological, environmental and cleanliness issues for the well-being of the town and future generations. Pro Sayulita is a non-political, duly-registered and federally-recognized Mexican non-profit association (A.C.), that was founded in 2005 by concerned lo

cal and foreign citizens committed to enriching the quality of life for ALL, in the beautiful seaside town of Sayulita, Mexico. The goal of Pro Sayulita is to recognize and preserve Sayulita’s unique cultural and ecological diversity, and the benefits they provide for all who live and visit here. We work to assist various groups within the community in both articulating new needs that are in the pueblo’s best interests, and in liaising with both local and government entities to secure funding for various immediate- and long-term projects. As the town has grown and evolved, new challenges have arisen. Today, Pro Sayulita Members' donations of time and money facilitates, funds or otherwise contributes to projects under three main umbrellas:

Our Gala Dinner 2026 was a huge success and likely our last one as we transition to a different "Fiesta" model.

Many thanks to Executive Chef Nick Parillo and Damien Porter and all their support team! It was another FABULOUS night with great food and wine pairings. Also, as always, the service was excellent!

A big thank you to our auctioneer, Ian Hodge who miraculously made it after being stung by a scorpion!

We would also like to thank the donors to our Live Auction, Jim Starkey, The Four Seasons Resort, Villa Amor, Cachasol, La Morena and George Reavis for their kind and generous donations. Thanks to all who donated to our Silent Auction too. (There are too many to mention here). And many thanks to Heather Klinkhamer for her intrepid collection of all those items and gift certificates.

But most of all, many thanks to all who joined us that evening! Your support of Pro Sayulita means so much to us and the community!

This week in Bahía de Banderas, a new chapter is being written in the history of our territory.

After three years and eight months of dialogue, work, consensus, and collective effort, the Participatory Ecological Zoning Program (POELP) has been approved. In short, it’s the ecological zoning plan for Bahía de Banderas, designed to balance tourism, urban growth, and environmental conservation.

It is not just a technical document. It is the voice of the land… translated by those of us who inhabit it. Ejido members who know the pulse of the countryside, business owners who understand the dynamics of development, environmentalists who defend the voiceless, and citizens who deeply love this land. Pro Sayulita was deeply involved, many thanks to Laura Maiz who represented us faithfully for many years!

The POELP represents a decisive step toward an urgent balance: growth, yes… but without destruction. Thanks to a mayor who listened, Héctor Santana.

The POELP is the official planning instrument created by the municipality of Bahía de Banderas, together with SEMARNAT and the University of Guadalajara, to regulate land use and guide sustainable development.

The program:

• Analyzes the territory (ecosystems, water, soil, population, infrastructure, economy, etc.).
• Identifies environmental and social problems (water scarcity, waste mismanagement, deforestation, unplanned urban growth, etc.) .
• Defines compatible and incompatible land uses to protect natural resources while allowing development.
• Includes community participation, so the rules and strategies reflect local needs and voices.
• Provides a legal basis aligned with federal and state environmental laws.

Thank you, dear Erik Saracho, thank you, dear members of Alianza Jaguar, REDMas, and all the collectives, environmentalists, ejido members, businesspeople, and federal, state, and municipal officials. We are all brothers and sisters, as the president of the Sayulita Ejido, Eduardo Rodríguez Plascencia, said.
