This last Thursday, we elected the next Executive Committee for Inspiring Speakers PDC for the next term: beginning on July 1st and ending in December 31st. Toastmasters asks all clubs to do this in the month of May, ensuring a month of learning before taking the club to new and exciting heights. Here are some words shared by the newly elected president of Inspiring Speakers PDC.

Gustavo Escobar will be the President.
BigSexy Berrywhite will be the Vicepresident of Education.
Doron Hanoch will be the Vicepresident of Membership.
Keith Commins will be the Vicepresident of Public Relations.
Benjamín Cruz will be the Sergeant at Arms.
Letitia Montana will be the Treasurer.
Reina Fujita will be the Secretary.

Yesterday was a special day for Inspiring Speakers PDC! Our club got to participate in the Division I Speech Contest, as part of the of annual speech contests. Division I of District 34 encompasses clubs from Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Merida and Tulum, and yesterday’s speech contests were held in the beautiful colonial town of Valladolid, Yucatan.

In particular we are proud of our member Reina Fujita for bringing home the 🥈prize in the International Speech Contest as well as our Toastmaster friend who is a member of our sister club in Cancun who took home the 🥇prize in the International Speech Contest and advances to the next level of competition 👏👏

At Inspiring Speakers this week, we leaned into a theme that challenges the way we move through the world: Curiosity over Assumptions. How often do we fill in the blanks before someone finishes their sentence? How quickly do we assign meaning without gathering evidence? Assumptions feel efficient, but they quietly limit connection, creativity, and growth. Curiosity, on the other hand, requires presence and humility—it asks us to listen more deeply, question our first interpretations, and remain open to being surprised. Through prepared speeches, spontaneous Table Topics, and intentional evaluations, we practiced replacing certainty with inquiry and judgment with genuine interest. The result? Richer conversations, unexpected insights, and a reminder that real leadership begins with the courage to ask, “What else could be true?”

Today’s session explored the subtle art of balance between planning and spontaneity—how preparation doesn’t restrict us, it actually frees us. We talked about showing up ready, while staying flexible enough to improvise when life inevitably changes the plan. Fittingly, this very session asked us to do just that, with last-minute shifts that reminded us preparation isn’t about control, but about capacity. When we plan well, we gain the confidence to adapt, respond, and move forward with clarity—because real life doesn’t follow scripts, and neither should we.”
