This year, 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, alongside 24 other organisations, submitted a Joint Shadow Report to track the implementation of the Maputo Protocol. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐬, 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐆𝐁𝐓𝐐𝐈+ 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐮𝐬. The recommendations made to the African Commission would enable it to bring the highlighted issues to the Mauritian government. 🇲🇺

Mauritius ratified the Maputo Protocol on 𝟏𝟔 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟕, thereby committing to upholding and advancing the rights of women and girls, including equality and non-discrimination, protection from violence, access to justice, health, and participation in public life. 𝐇𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫, 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐬, 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐆𝐁𝐓𝐐𝐈+ 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐮𝐬. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

25 organisations submitted a 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐰 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 on the current context, and made recommendations for the African Commission to bring the highlighted issues to the Mauritian government. 🇲🇺

Not everyone will understand us.
Not everyone will accept us.
And for many of us, that is a reality we have known our entire lives.

Some of us grew up hiding parts of ourselves.
Some of us were told we were wrong, broken, or too much.
Some of us lost friends, family, opportunities, or the simple comfort of being loved without conditions.

So no, we never marched because we expected everyone to approve of who we are.

We march for the people who came before us and fought so that we could stand here today.
We march for those who still feel alone, scared, or unseen.
We march for every person who has ever wondered whether there was a place for them in this world.

Pride is not about asking for acceptance.
It is about refusing to disappear.

It is about choosing joy after pain, visibility after silence, and hope after years of being told to shrink ourselves.

We are here.
We belong.
We have always belonged.

And no amount of hate will ever change that. 🌈
