Recovery continues, one piece of debris at a time! ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ต

June is Ocean Month! ๐Ÿชธ๐ŸŒŠ This Ocean Month, our team remains committed to stewarding our land and seas! MINA staff and Tasi Watch Community Rangers continue to remove typhoon debris in our lagoon, helping restore the waters that connect and sustain our island communities.

Every cleanup effort is a reminder that when we work together, recovery is possible. Thank you to everyone helping protect our ocean for current and future generations. ๐Ÿฉต

In 2019, MINA planted this talisai through the Bring Back Our Trees (BBOT) Program supported by OIAโ€™s Coral Reef and Natural Resource (CRNR) program. This photo was taken just yesterday.

Despite Super Typhoon Sinlakuโ€™s powerful winds, this mighty talisai-and many other native trees-are still standing tall. After just a month, green is already returning to our landscapes! ๐Ÿ’š

Like this tree, our communities carry resilience and knowledge passed down from generations. We have weathered storms before, and we will bloom again, together.

Through our current BBOT Program, we are working to restore our lost canopy by planting native species, like the talisai, in public and private spaces across Saipan. Letโ€™s continue to plant hope for a resilient future in the face of changing environmental conditions.

Much appreciation to KUPU for supporting our current BBOT efforts in the Marianas!

๐ŸคŽ More information about the Talisai:

Also known as the Pacific Almond (Terminalia catappa), this is a native coastal tree that has sheltered our people and wildlife and provided us with wood and nutritious, edible seeds.

Greetings, island community ๐Ÿ’š

We hope you and your loved ones are safe and holding strong. Weโ€™ve been a little quiet here on social media, but itโ€™s because our team and Tasi Watch Rangers have been focused on cleanups and supporting our community after the storm.

Itโ€™s been long days and a lot of debrisโ€ฆ letโ€™s just say our step count has been very impressive lately ๐Ÿ˜…

Sharing a few moments from the cleanup efforts. Weโ€™re in this with you ๐Ÿ’š
Until then, please take care of yourselves, your loved ones, and your neighbors. We are grateful to have each of you as part of this growing community of stewards.

๐Ÿ’š,
Your Friends at MINA

๐ŸŒฑMeet MINAโ€™s first Island Stewardship Scholars! ๐ŸŒฑ

We are proud to introduce the first cohort of Island Stewardship Scholars, a group of passionate students committed to environmental stewardship and caring for our islands.

This April, as the CNMI recognizes Environmental Awareness Month, we celebrate these scholars who are stepping forward to learn, serve, and take action in their communities. From tree planting to outreach, they will be part of hands-on efforts through MINAโ€™s Bring Back Our Trees program.

This opportunity is supported through funding provided by KUPU under Federal Assistance Listing Number (ALN): 10.727.

Schools for Environmental Education (SFEE) orientations were held for the Rotaract Club of Saipan, as well as the Tanapag Middle School (TMS) school team and Health & Wellness Club๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒ

This yearโ€™s theme is โ€œLearning About, Interacting With, and Actively Addressing Changing Environmental Conditions and Extreme Weather Events,โ€ which guided the participants as they developed Environmental Action Plans (EAP) to improve our natural environment.

Special thanks to our partners, participants, and guest speaker, Mr. Michael Villagomez (BECQ-DEQ)!๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’™

โ™ป๏ธMarch Community Recycles Plastics (CRP) Eventโ™ป๏ธ

During last monthโ€™s CRP event, Schools for Environmental Education (SFEE) participants joined us in our effort to combat plastic pollution!

The FMSMS school team, MCS Eco Club, TMS school team, and MHS Ocean Preservation & Observation Club cleaned Micro Beach and sorted plastics for future upcycling!

Huge shoutout to these amazing students and advisors for their hard work and dedication to our environment!

This program was made possible in part by a grant from the National Park Foundation and The Coca-Cola Company.
