Club was started under the patronage of PDG Lion Bernad De Levara and the supervision of Lion D.P Kakulawala in the year of 1986 Feb 14 . Charter Chairman of the lions club of Akuressa was late Lion H.W Gunasekara. secretary Late Lion Upali Basnayake and the treasure was Lion Thilak Pathirana. for the Last 25 years time lions club of Akuressa manage to achieve many awards in the annual Lions Conv

ention due to the clubs unmatched community service among the region. currently there are several continues projects

1." Gamipubuduwa" - One of the major event organized by the Akuressa Lions club. for this event club members select a rural village with minimum facilities and help the villages to develop their life's by providing sanitary equipment's, educational materials for kids, health camps, entertainment and much more events.

2. "Sathpurawesi Sammana" - awarding the great personalities in the region for their achievements, concern on humanitarian services.

3. " Uthuru Mithuru Gurusumithuru" - this is another major event organized by the lions club of Akuress, teachers from Northern Sri Lanka gets a chance to meet teacher in southern Sri Lanka. Major Aim of this Project is to develop the harmony among the different ethnic groups in Sri Lanka. throughout 2-3 days they spent in down south or north, exploring the cites and historical places, attending educational seminars, also they get a chance of trying all the different types of meals in the area

4. "Fin Sisudiriya" - scholarship program carried by Lions Club of Akuressa under the sponsorship of Finish Lions and Lion Ladies. currently more than 50 students are facilitated with this scholarship program.

5. "Viyapath Athwela" - helping the poor elders is the aim of this project, on the 1 Monday of each month the elders who come to collect their pay given by the gov from the post office are treated with food, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste and also free health camps.
