Young Jains Nairobi ‘Walkathon 2’ and Carnival.. We are pleased to inform you of our above event on the 3rd of July 2016 at the Oshwal Centre from 7.00am to 6.00pm

Young Jains is actively involved in various charitable activities on a regular basis, and below is a list of some:

1. Cerebral Palsy Unit at the Dr. Ribero Primary School – Parklands:
We have adopted the unit since 2011 with 22 childr

en suffering from cerebral Palsy at various stages. There is no cure and the only treatment prescribed is care, physiotherapy, speech therapy and general motor skills. Today we have 100 such children and employ 18 full time staff members to care for them, feed them and provide therapy. We have successfully integrated 46 such children into the main stream for learning and are proud to say that our children are excelling in academics, despite their physical challenges, with one girl now at a secondary school. Besides providing for all their daily needs, we have also provided for a therapy hall, renovated the class rooms and invested in the appropriate equipment to help their progress. The eventual plan is to create a Cerebral Palsy Centre in order to cater for all sorts of brain dis-orders – a facility that does not exist in Kenya.

2. Milk Drive at the Dr. Ribero Primary School – Parklands:
There are over 900 children studying at the normal school. We have taken the initiative to provide them all with milk on a daily basis purely relying on donations for the same. At present our daily cost is Khs.15,000/- for over 900 children. This project is gaining momentum and already the results of the children reflects the fruits of the milk drive

Water projects:
We have been actively digging bore-wells at various locations all over Kenya since 1998. To date we have done over 250 such wells, and a recent survey carried out showed that over 80% are still in use, with 10% needing repairs and 10% totally damaged. This effort has enabled over 300,000 people to get fresh water and allowed children to go to school. Also many kitchen gardens have started and entire villages have progressed with the availability of fresh water. We have done these in partnerships with various organizations like the Rotarians, ADRA, World Vision etc.

3. Education relief:
Over the years we have been able to sponsor fees for a lot of children. We now also want to embark on professional vocational training, to enable suitable candidates get better skills for better jobs in Kenya.

4. Feeding programs:
Every year we carry out feeding over 3000 handicapped children together with the Rotary Group. We also host a Christmas Party for a 1000 handicapped children annually – entertaining and feeding them, together with well-wishers and the Rotary group. In addition, YJ is very active in various other charitable deeds that are once off’s and sometimes ad-hoc. The impact of our projects have always been far reaching, with 100% of donations only used for the cause. In order to fund our activities, we have organized a Walkathon and a carnival for doing good and having fun. We wish to invite people from all walks of life, to join us in walking 10Kms. on the 3rd of July from 7.00am onwards. All walkers will get pledges prompting them to walk, Followed by a sumptuous breakfast. Thereafter all will participate in a Carnival from 11.00am to 6.30pm where there will be games, raffle, entertainment, food etc. It is a fun day with an objective of raising funds for the needy. All our Cerebral Palsy children will also be present to witness, participate and enjoy the day with us. We anticipate over 7500 people participating on the day, giving a huge exposure to all donors. In order to raise funds, besides the sponsorships obtained by the walkers, we kindly request your participation and involvement by pledging any amount towards the project. Besides sponsoring the walkers, we are also looking for donors in certain categories [inbox for further details]
