Happy World Environment Day! Under the theme "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future," we look to the Grevy's zebra, which are living proof that when nature is protected and respected, it becomes resilient.

At Grevy's Zebra Trust, we are inspired by nature, guided by the rhythms of the rangeland, the wisdom of communities, and the quiet strength of Africa's most endangered zebra.

Because protecting nature is climate action.

Conservation work often begins with listening, movement, and partnership on the ground. Last week, teams carried out a joint patrol across the Mputaput–Kawuap and Sikira Plains–Loregel circuits to assess wildlife distribution and habitat conditions. Grevy’s zebra were mainly concentrated within the Kawuap–Mputaput area, while other species like gerenuks, Grant’s gazelles, and ostriches were more evenly spread across the landscape.

Alongside the patrols, a Moran peace meeting in Nachola brought together 72 participants, including community leaders, chiefs, and partners, to discuss peace-building, coexistence, and collaboration ahead of the dry season.

These conversations matter. Healthy landscapes and thriving wildlife depend not only on habitat, but also on strong relationships, shared responsibility, and lasting peace across communities.

Join us for May’s "Closer Look" with Wildlife Conservation Network 🦓🌿

On May 28, we’ll be sharing more about the community-rooted conservation work helping protect endangered Grevy’s zebra, the rangelands they depend on, and the communities who help safeguard them every day.

From working alongside pastoralists to restoring landscapes across northern Kenya, this conversation offers a closer look at what conservation on the ground really looks like.

Happy International Day for Biological Diversity!

This year’s theme is a reminder that protecting biodiversity is a shared responsibility. Every species plays a role. When grasslands are healthy, they support insects, livestock, wildlife and the people who depend on them. From the smallest species to the Grevy’s zebra, every part of the ecosystem is connected.

At Grevy’s Zebra Trust, being part of the plan means community-led restoration efforts, sustainable grazing, and daily stewardship of the land. Because when communities are part of the plan, biodiversity has a future.

Women on Wheels in Conservation was created with one clear purpose: to help women conservation champions reach more communities and strengthen awareness around Grevy’s zebra conservation. 🦓

In vast rangeland landscapes, mobility matters. While women already bring leadership, knowledge, and community trust to conservation work, distance has often limited outreach efforts.

During a recent Women Conservation Champions training, the Women on Wheels vehicle transported participants to Grevy’s zebra habitats and restoration sites, turning classroom learning into real field experience. For many, it was their first time, a powerful moment that brought the initiative to life.

The vehicle supports outreach to villages, schools, and community forums, helping expand community-led conservation across the landscape.

Happy World Bee Day, this day reminds us that healthy ecosystems are built through connection. 🐝🌿🦓

Our new beekeeping initiative is bringing together community livelihoods, landscape restoration, and conservation in one shared effort.

Through partnerships with Grassland Champions and Naropil Honey Company, beehives are now being introduced across restoration sites in northern Kenya. As bees help pollinate and restore vegetation, the landscape becomes healthier for livestock, wildlife, and species like the Grevy’s zebra. At the same time, communities benefit from a sustainable source of income through honey production.

Good for the land, for Grevy’s zebra, and for the community. Read more about it here https://www.grevyszebratrust.org/2026/05/beekeeping-initiative/
