A journey can cross borders. But its real value is in what it builds beyond them.
For more than two months, Alaya and his team have been working to turn an idea into a real opportunity for connection and cooperation between Petra in Jordan and Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, two globally recognized destinations, each with extraordinary cultural, natural and tourism significance.
As one of the sons of Petra, Alaya carries a deep responsibility towards his hometown and its community.
He believes that this journey can be more than a long-distance walk. It can be a platform to create opportunities, open doors and build relationships that can bring something meaningful to people.
During his time in Tanzania, Alaya personally presented and explained the proposal to the relevant parties, with the aim of planting a seed of connection between Petra and Kilimanjaro and exploring ways for the two destinations and their communities to learn from, support and promote one another.
The proposal is now being studied by the relevant authorities on both sides. Both have expressed interest in the idea and appreciation for the opportunities such cooperation could create.
Alaya and the Hike With Me team will continue to facilitate communication between the concerned parties and support the process, with the hope that this interest can develop into a meaningful cooperation between Petra and Kilimanjaro.
And perhaps, in the end, one of the most meaningful things this journey can leave behind is not a number of kilometres, but a new connection between two great destinations and the people who call them home.
