📄 A new paper examines a growing governance gap in Jordan’s healthcare sector: the weak linkage between specialist qualifications, clinical privileges, professional training, oversight, and accountability when medical errors or complaints arise.

🔍 The paper proposes a practical reform pathway that includes developing national lists defining the scope of practice associated with medical qualifications, maintaining training records through an electronic system, strengthening clinical privileges committees within healthcare institutions, redesigning the medical complaints process, and establishing a unified national platform to verify physicians, healthcare facilities, clinical privileges, and medical advertising.

⚖️ The objective is not to add another layer of bureaucracy, but to establish a clearer framework that makes medical practice safer, accountability fairer, and public trust more firmly grounded.

A new policy paper by the Politics and Society Institute, titled Jordan on the New Regional Trade Routes, examines how the Kingdom can move from serving as a transit corridor for goods to becoming a regional hub for trade, manufacturing, logistics, and re-export—amid shifting trade routes and emerging opportunities for cooperation with Iraq and Syria.

The paper argues that geographic location alone is insufficient. Sustainable gains depend on the domestic added value and employment generated by trade flows. This requires connecting trade corridors with industrial zones, addressing delays at the Port of Aqaba and the Jaber border crossing, streamlining customs procedures, and diversifying partnerships and trade routes.

The paper draws on a specialized discussion session convened by the Institute, followed by technical contributions from researchers and experts in international relations, transport, trade, and logistics.
