Earlier this week, students, teachers, and parents attached to the Bellefield Primary and Infant School, visited the Jamaica Red Cross headquarters and engaged with members of the local JRC team as well as our IFRC Americas colleagues from the country office.

In observation of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the youth members and staff advisors of the Troy High School Red Cross Youth Link (club) hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness Month Walk and Emphasis Day.

So, they engaged in an Awareness Walk, mounted an information booth and Support Board. They also held student and staff engagement activities.

Some of our colleagues from the International Committee of the Red Cross Venezuela spent some time in Jamaica for a workshop entitled Restoring Family Links (RL) in Emergencies. The workshop was mainly geared at how ICRC can strengthen the preparation for emergency preparedness.

Today, - Olga and Natasha - for their last day in island, visited the JRC National Headquarters. The ladies also quickly toured Spanish Town by car and they visited the St. Catherine Branch. There, Branch Director, Mr. Anthony Alleyne gave them a quick Branch tour.

ONE year after made landfall in Westmoreland parish, the Jamaica Red Cross is reporting that it reached more than 91,000 people with humanitarian assistance with the support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies

In a media release on Tuesday, the Jamaica Red Cross said support to Melissa victims has evolved with people’s needs — from health care and relief items for families in shelters and displaced from their homes, to cash assistance that lets them lead their own recovery.

National Tree Planting Day was earlier this month, but it would be an injustice to not highlight the Youth Members from Rusea’s High School Youth Link who planted a few trees on that day!

Our Youth Link members are environmental stewards and this is important! When children plant trees, they connect deeply with nature, learn firsthand about biodiversity, and see the tangible impact they can make on our planet’s future. Plus, watching a tree they planted grow builds a lifelong sense of responsibility and pride. 🌱

Many thanks to the West Indian American Association of Greater Bridgeport WIAAGB Organization for their donation of medical items to be distributed within communities served by the Jamaica Red Cross.

Audra Riley-Wade and Joyce Quinlan of the organisation met with director general, Yvonne Clarke at the JRC headquarters and handed over the items.

Riley-Wade shared, “we chose the Jamaica Red Cross because we feel that it’s the best organisation to distribute these supplies where they are most needed in the community.”
