C-CAM is an environmental and development NGO based in Lionel Town, Clarendon, Jamaica since 1997. C-CAM works in the Portland Bight Protected Area, this includes working with communities to develop sustainable livelihoods, encourage wise use of natural resources, promote community involvement in decision-making and to protect the cultural heritage and biodiversity of the area.

Yesterday, the C-CAM team participated in a hands-on camera trap training session under CEPF led by Damion Rooster Whyte, strengthening our skills in wildlife monitoring and conservation research🐾.

The training covered key techniques, including camera deployment, proper data collection and management, and camera setup to ensure accurate and effective biodiversity monitoring in the field🌱.

We are also grateful for the donation of six cameras from Re:wild, which will enhance our ability to monitor wildlife and gather valuable data to support conservation efforts within the Portland Bight Protected Area and beyond.

🌵Labour Day 2026 – “The Conservation Plan”🌍.

C-CAM proudly partnered with the All Hellshire Environmental Committee and the Hellshire Horticultural and Botanical Society for this year’s Labour Day project, focused on conservation and community action🤝.

The day featured the distribution of the endangered Consolea spinosissima (Spiny Tuna) throughout the Hellshire communities, along with educational outreach on the importance of protecting this unique species 🌵.

Our mission is to help repopulate the Spiny Tuna, which continues to face threats from human activities and climate change, including damaging fungal impacts⚠️.

Together with our stakeholders and communities, C-CAM remains committed to conserving biodiversity, restoring ecosystems, and building a more sustainable future for generations to come.

🌍🌿International Day for Biological Diversity 2026!

Under this year’s theme, “Acting Locally for Global Impact,” C-CAM proudly highlights the importance of protecting the unique biodiversity found within the Portland Bight Protected Area.

Today, we shine a spotlight on some of our remarkable endemic species—the resilient Consolea cactus, the critically endemic Grey Birch (Bursera hollickii), and the rare Portland Ridge Frog.

These species continue to demonstrate resilience and nature's capacity for recovery when conservation initiatives are promoted and sustained. Together, we can start at home and have an impact on the world through community action, education, and conservation.

Caribbean Endemic Bird Festival 2026 at the Discovery Center on May 15.

C-CAM proudly hosted the Caribbean Endemic Bird Festival 2026 at our Discovery Center, celebrating the beauty and importance of our unique island birds 💚🐦.

The day was filled with exciting and educational activities, including bird watching, bird feeder hanging, interactive bird alert posters and presentations highlighting the dos and don’ts of bird conservation as well as the major threats facing our endemic birds and how we can help to decrease these threats🌱🪺.

Through awareness and action, we continue to inspire communities to protect the species that make our Caribbean biodiversity so special, because preserving our birds today helps secure a healthier ecosystem for the future🦜.

Celebrating under this year’s theme, “Literacy Resilience: Foundation to Nation Building”, C-CAM proudly visited Salt Savannah Primary and Infant School and Mitchell Town Primary and Infant School to share the joy and power of reading 📖💚.

Through storytelling and engagement, we reminded students that reading opens doors to knowledge, creativity, and endless possibilities.
