Today we met with the Penny Wong and Anne Aly and a senior delegation from the Australian Federal Police and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The Australian Government has committed to undertaking an independent investigation into the assaults, sexual assaults and torture of the flotilla activists.

Australian women and men have reported sexual assault, torture and abuse by Israeli forces.

They were unarmed humanitarian volunteers trying to deliver food, medicine and baby formula to starving Palestinians.

Instead, they were detained, abused and returned home with physical and psychological injuries.

This did not happen in a vacuum.

The United Nations, human rights organisations and former detainees have documented patterns of torture, sexual violence and abuse against Palestinians for years.

What happened to Australian flotilla participants was a glimpse into a system Palestinians have been warning the world about for decades.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong says she believes survivors.

Good.

Believing survivors is the first step.

Investigation is the second.

Justice is the third.

When Australians report sexual assault, torture and abuse by a foreign state, there should be consequences.

An independent investigation.

Accountability for those responsible.

And an end to Australian support for those committing these crimes.

On Monday, survivors will meet with Foreign Minister Penny Wong.

It's not a hard choice.

Seek justice for survivors.

Stop protecting the perpetrators.

This year’s European Press Prize has gone to a Dutch investigation that should shame every newsroom still pretending not to see what is happening in Gaza.

The report, published by De Volkskrant and titled What the Wounds Tell, was written by Maud Effting and Willem Feenstra. It documents the cases of 114 children in Gaza, all under the age of 15, who were shot with a single bullet to the head or chest.

A single bullet to the head or chest is not collateral damage, it is the mark of deliberate targeting !
