🐝 _WORLD BEE DAY 20/5/2026_ 🐝
*2026 Theme:* *Bee Together for People and the Planet – A partnership that sustains us all”*
The theme highlights the long, evolving connection between humans and bees, and the need for collaborative action to protect pollinators.
*Why Bees Matter Significance*
1. *Food Security*: Over 75% of the world’s major food crops depend on pollination. Bees pollinate fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, oils — the nutritious part of our diet. A single honeybee visits 1,000-7,000 flowers a day
2. *Biodiversity*: Bees maintain plant diversity, which supports mammals, birds and other wildlife. Well-pollinated plants produce larger, better-shaped, tastier fruits
3. *Livelihoods & Economy*: Pollinators contribute $235-$577 billion globally every year. Beekeeping supports rural income, women, youth, and pastoral communities
4. *Environment*: Bees are indicators of environmental health. Their decline threatens ecosystems and agrifood systems.
*Why May 20?*
Marks the birth anniversary of Anton Janša (1734), pioneer of modern beekeeping from Slovenia
*Key Message:* *Protecting bees protecting our future Plant bee-friendly flowers, avoid pesticides, support local beekeepers*
