KBB Scientist Visits Green Ahalia and Appreciates Conservation Initiatives.
Dr. Jawahar Ravindran, Botanist from the Karnataka Biodiversity Board (KBB), visited Green Ahalia on 23rd May 2026 and interacted with our team. During his visit, he held discussions with Green Ahalia team regarding the conservation initiatives being undertaken at Ahalia campus. He had visited our thematic gardens, including the shade house, mist chamber, conservatory plots in Chayathara and the star forest area. He spent time at our seed museum and proposed herbarium. He appreciated the dedicated efforts of the Green Ahalia team in plant conservation research, documentation, and biodiversity awareness. His visit provided valuable insights into taxonomy and prompted Green Ahalia to strengthen its initiatives for conserving the rich floral diversity of the Western Ghats to be a model to other organisations doing similar works.

FROM SKY TO SCREEN- Inauguration of Green Ahalia Weather Station
Green Ahalia is happy to announce the installation and inauguration of the Green Ahalia weather station, the Devis Vintage Pro2, in our campus on 4th June 2026. The programme was graced by Mrs. Shreya Gopal, Managing Trustee, Ahalia International Foundation, as the Chief Guest. After welcoming the guests (faculty, staff and students from Ahalia institutes) Mr. Sabik, presented and explained the functioning, features and significance of the weather station. This facility will provide real-time weather data on temperature, rainfall, humidity, wind speed and other climatic conditions, helping us monitor local environment. The weather station will support research, teaching and the collected data will also be useful in predicting and understanding seasonal changes and weather patterns.
Following the inauguration, the invited guests, heads of various Ahalia institutions and other officials participated in a new theme garden named Lily Vasantham in the vicinity of the weather station by planting several lily plants. Madam Shreya Gopal visited our shade houses and familiarised with important species contributing to the richness of Campus biodiversity.

Govt. College Students Visit Ahalia Campus

A group of 42 students from the Department of Botany, Government College, Chittur, Palakkad, visited Green Ahalia on 16th March 2026 as part of their curriculum enrichment programme. The students were accompanied by Dr. Aswani V.J. and Dr. Riyas. The visit aimed to provide practical exposure to plant diversity and cultivation practices, while also introducing students to advanced laboratory facilities. The programme commenced with an orientation session by Mr. Sabik, Botanist, Green Ahalia highlighting the vision and key initiatives of Green Ahalia and the Ahalia campus. This was followed by a guided tour of the propagation units, thematic gardens, and various cultivation models. The students later visited the laboratories at Ahalia School of Pharmacy, where they were familiarized with modern laboratory instruments and their working principles.

Green Ahalia explores conservation initiatives in Kodungalur
MES Asmabi College Professor Dr. Amitabh Bachan is well known for his efforts in ecorestoration, threat Assessment and IUCN Categorisation through their hornbill foundation. These are also our priorities. Accordingly Green Ahalia team, comprising Dr. K. Haridasan, Shaibu, and Sabik, visited MES Asmabi College on 25 February 2026 for a discussion and to have firsthand information. The team had a very fruitful interaction with Dr. Amitha Bachan, and his colleague Ms. Devika Anilkumar about their ongoing programmes and involvement in PBR preparation. The team also visited the RET (Rare, Endangered, and Threatened) plant nursery maintained in the campus and we were given seedlings of five species of Threatened plants.

Green Ahalia Signs MoU with SN College, Alathur

As part of our networking strategy, Green Ahalia has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SN College, Alathur to strengthen academic and research collaboration. The programme was presided over by Dr. Praveena Vijay, Principal of SN College, Alathur. Dr. K. Haridasan delivered the keynote address. The event was felicitated by Dr. M. A. Suraj, Former Head of the Department of Botany, SN College, Nattika, and Dr. Soumya C. S., Senate Member of University of Calicut. The MoU aims to promote collaboration in areas of mutual interest in research and to provide internship opportunities for students.

Green Ahalia covers the second known location of distribution of Elaeocarpus gadgilii.
Along with Victoria College Botany Alumni Association Mr. Midhun and Dr. Haridasan visited the Shiruvani Ecotourism area on 8th February to understand the phenological events of major trees and other elements in canopy. This proved to be a boon for our efforts, as we could not only locate the second population of Elaeocarpus gadgilii (a wild relative of the Rudhraksha tree) reported so far from Nelliyampathi which we were aware of this endemic species till then. With this, our understanding of the habitat preference of the species could be better elucidated. Further, we did a transect walk along Kerala Medu hill to know the phytosociological features. Luckily, we observed few trees in fruiting and a few with inflorescence. Midhun could collect herbarium specimens of this and other interesting species. Few wildings of plants from this area for introduction to our garden is a bonus in this trip.
