Help us create the Wapuu for WordCamp Asia 2027! 🇲🇾

Wapuu is one of the most recognisable characters in the WordPress community, and WordCamp Asia 2027 needs one of its own.

We're inviting everyone to submit a Wapuu design that captures the culture and character of Penang, Malaysia, while reflecting the spirit of WordCamp.

You don't have to be a professional designer. Individuals and teams are welcome, and multiple submissions are encouraged.

Looking for inspiration? Think:
🌺 Malaysia's diverse art and cultural influences
🏮 Peranakan / Nyonya style
🍜 Penang's food and flavours
🏛️ Heritage, architecture and local identity
🤝 Inclusivity, diversity, engagement and community

The winning design will become the official WordCamp Asia 2027 Wapuu, with the creator receiving exclusive WCA27 swag featuring the winning Wapuu, official recognition on the WordCamp Asia website, and the chance to have their creation celebrated by the global WordPress community.

💙 Can you help someone make their first contribution?

We’re looking for Contributor Day Workshop Facilitators for WordCamp Asia 2027!

Contributor Day is designed to help people move from “I’d like to contribute” to “I know how to get started.”

Our workshops will be practical, hands-on sessions designed to remove some of the barriers people face when approaching WordPress contribution for the first time.

Planned topics include:

🧑‍💻 Beginner WordPress Workshop
🧱 Building a Block Theme from Scratch
⚙️ WordPress Core Development Setup Workshop
🤖 WordPress and AI Workflow

And you won't have to facilitate alone.

Each selected workshop will have:
• 1 Lead Facilitator
• 2 Co-Facilitators
• Around 50 participants

So if you have experience that could help someone take their first meaningful steps as a WordPress contributor, we'd love to hear from you.

Contributor Day will take place on 9 April 2027 in Penang, Malaysia, and we're already working on ways to make the experience more useful for both new and experienced contributors.

We're planning:

📋 Contribution Tables with prepared tasks
🛠️ Hands-on Contributor Day workshops
🎤 Contributor Stories
🚀 A new project-based Hackathon experiment
📚 The Open-Source Library
💬 More ways to connect with contributors across experience levels

But these plans are still being developed.
We want to hear from the people who will actually be there.

Welcome to the home of WordCamp Asia 2027!

From 9 to 11 April 2027, the WordPress community from across Asia and around the world will gather at the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre (PWCC) in Penang, Malaysia. 🇲🇾

And what a place to call home for three days.

PWCC is a modern waterfront convention centre with flexible event spaces, modern AV and connectivity, spacious halls and plenty of room for the conversations that happen between sessions. Step outside and you’ll find the sea with views towards Penang Bridge.

The venue is also conveniently located:

🌊 Right by the waterfront
