Restoring Coimbatore’s Water Heritage, One Anicut at a Time
On 16 August 2026, Siruthuli, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Central, began the rejuvenation of Kurichi Anicut with an auspicious Bhoomi Pooja.
The day began with a Noyyal River Walk, followed by the Bhoomi Pooja, in the presence of Dr. S. V. Balasubramaniam, Chairman – Siruthuli; Ms. Vanitha Mohan, Managing Trustee – Siruthuli; Mr. Manojkumar, President – Rotary Club of Coimbatore Central; Mr. P. P. Subramanian, Convenor – Water Watch; Mr. C. R. Elangovan, Author; and Rtn. Aruna Thangaraj, Secretary – Rotary Club of Coimbatore Central, along with representatives of Rotary Club of Coimbatore Central, Siruthuli members, Corporation officials, stakeholders and supporters.
Following the restoration of Pudhukadu Anicut and Kil Chithirai Chavadi Anicut, this initiative will further strengthen the Noyyal’s traditional water-management system.
The project will improve water retention, groundwater recharge, agricultural productivity and water quality, directly benefiting 509 ayacut acres. It will also address sewage flow in the feeder channel leading to Kurichi Tank, helping ensure cleaner water reaches the tank.
Restore the flow. Recharge the land. Revive the Noyyal.
Together, we continue to protect Coimbatore’s water heritage and build a more water-secure future.
