On the sacred occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Yuva Vikash Kendra observed the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with a meaningful programme dedicated to reflecting upon his timeless message of Truth, Peace, Non-Violence and Rural Development.

The programme featured an insightful discussion on โ€œMahatma Gandhi and the Youth for Rural Developmentโ€, exploring the relevance of Gandhian values in empowering young people and building self-reliant, peaceful and sustainable rural communities.

The discussion was enriched by the presence and valuable thoughts of Dr. Chandrika Basu Majumder, Retired Professor and former Dean, Tripura University, as the main speaker, along with Er. Tapan Lodh, Chairman, Yuva Vikash Kendra; Adv. Anjan Debnath, Legal Advisor; Debashis Majumder, President; Pinku Das, Organising Secretary; and other distinguished guests, members and youth.

As a heartfelt tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the programme concluded with soulful musical and poetic presentations by talented artists, celebrating the enduring spirit of peace, humanity and harmony.

The programme brought together participants from 9 states, providing a valuable platform for learning, knowledge sharing and exchange of experiences on climate-resilient agriculture, integrated farming systems, agroforestry and agrohorticulture.

As part of the programme, the participants visited the demonstration units of ICAR and interacted with local farmers, gaining practical insights into sustainable farming practices, innovative agricultural models and locally adaptable approaches for strengthening farmersโ€™ resilience to climate change.

For Yuva Vikash Kendra, such learning opportunities are especially valuable in strengthening our ongoing efforts towards sustainable agriculture, natural farming, integrated farming systems and improved livelihoods for rural and tribal communities.

Two-Day Natural Farming Training Concludes Successfully in Tripura

The two-day Residential Training on Natural Farming for Progressive Farmers of Tripura, jointly organised by Yuva Vikash Kendra (YVK), Kamalnayan Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation and Vishwa Yuvak Kendra (VYK), New Delhi, successfully concluded on 11 September 2026 at Damdamia, West Tripura.

The closing ceremony was graced by Shri Diganta Kumar Das, Deputy General Manager, NABARD, Tripura, as the Chief Guest, along with Er. Tapan Lodh, Chairman, Yuva Vikash Kendra, and a representative of the Bajaj Foundation.

The concluding session became especially meaningful as participating farmers shared their experiences, reflections and learning from the two-day programme. Their voices reflected a growing interest in adopting practical and sustainable natural farming practices in their own fields and communities.

The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participating farmers, recognising their active participation and commitment to sustainable agriculture.

Day Two of Residential Training Emphasises Practical Learning, Expert Insights and Farmer-to-Farmer Knowledge Exchange

The second and concluding day of the Two-Day Residential Training on Natural Farming for Progressive Farmers of Tripura brought together farmers, agricultural experts, development professionals and practitioners for a day of intensive learning, experience-sharing and reflection on the future of sustainable agriculture in the state.

Organised jointly by Yuva Vikash Kendra (YVK), Kamalnayan Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation and Vishwa Yuvak Kendra, the residential training created a platform for progressive farmers from different districts of Tripura to engage directly with experienced resource persons and explore practical approaches to natural farming suited to local conditions.

The day featured a series of informative and interactive sessions conducted by a distinguished team of resource persons and experts, including a representative of the Kamalnayan Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation; Shri Anjan Sen Gupta, Joint Director, Tripura Biotechnology Department; Dr. Mandira Chakraborty, SMS, KVK West Tripura; Shri Pinaki Sarkar De, Assistant Director of Agriculture; Shri Sudip Majumder, Managing Director, BAPCL; Shri Mridul Paul of VHAT, along with other experts and resource persons.

Through interactive discussions, technical sessions and experience-sharing, participants were encouraged to look beyond the theoretical understanding of natural farming and examine how its principles can be translated into practical action at the farm level. The sessions explored the importance of soil health, locally available resources, ecological balance, reduced dependence on external inputs and the need to develop farming practices that respond to the realities of Tripura's diverse agricultural landscape.

A key strength of the training was its emphasis on farmer-to-farmer learning. Progressive farmers from across the state shared their own field experiences, challenges, innovations and successful practices, creating an atmosphere where knowledge flowed not only from experts to farmers but also between farmers themselves. Such exchanges helped participants understand that locally developed solutions and practical experiences can play an important role in advancing sustainable agriculture.

The training also provided an opportunity to build a stronger network of progressive farmers who can act as practitioners, learners and ambassadors of natural farming within their respective communities. The collective participation of farmers from different parts of Tripura highlighted the growing interest in agricultural approaches that are economically viable, environmentally responsible and adaptable to changing climatic and local conditions.

As the two-day residential programme concluded, the message emerging from the training was clear: the transition towards sustainable agriculture begins not only with new techniques, but with a change in understanding, practice and collective commitment.

At a time when farmers across the world are facing rising input costs, declining soil health, climate uncertainty and growing concerns over the sustainability of food production, a grassroots initiative in Tripura is seeking to place farmers at the heart of a more sustainable agricultural future.

A Two-Day Residential Training on Natural Farming for Progressive Farmers of Tripura, jointly organised by Yuva Vikash Kendra (YVK), Kamalnayan Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation us and Vishwa Yuvak Kendra (VYK), New Delhi, commenced today at Damdamia in West Tripura District.

Being held from 10 to 11 September 2026, the programme is designed to strengthen farmersโ€™ understanding of natural farming and introduce practical approaches that can make agriculture more sustainable, ecologically responsible, climate-resilient and economically viable.

Held under the inspiring theme โ€œLearn โ€ข Practice โ€ข Adopt โ€ข Promote Sustainable Agriculture,โ€ the initiative aims to go beyond conventional classroom training. It seeks to encourage farmers not only to learn natural farming practices, but also to adopt them in their own fields, demonstrate them within their communities and become local ambassadors of sustainable agriculture.

The programme has brought together 97 progressive farmers from all eight districts of Tripura, creating a diverse platform for farmers to exchange experiences, learn from one another and explore practical solutions suited to the agricultural realities of the state.

Adding a valuable dimension to the training, three experienced resource farmers from Wardha, Maharashtra, have joined the programme to share their practical field experiences and provide hands-on guidance on natural farming. Their participation is expected to strengthen peer-to-peer learning and demonstrate how farmers themselves can become important agents of agricultural transformation.

The inaugural programme was attended by a distinguished gathering of public officials, development-sector representatives and social leaders, including Shri Biswajit Shil, Honโ€™ble Sabhadipati, West Tripura Zila Parishad; Smt. Tanushree Bhattacharyya, General Manager, NABARD, Tripura Regional Office; Dr. Uttam Saha, Joint Director, Department of Agriculture and Nodal Officer of the National Mission for Natural Farming; Er. Tapan Lodh, Chairman, Yuva Vikash Kendra; Shri Sachin Zadey of Kamalnayan Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation; and Fr. Robert Emmanuel Mathias, Director, ASHA.

The programme was hosted by Shri Debashis Majumder, President of Yuva Vikash Kendra, while Shri Pinku Das, Organizing Secretary of YVK delivered the welcome address.

The training reflects a growing recognition that the future of agriculture cannot depend solely on higher external inputs, but must also be rooted in healthy soil, ecological balance, local knowledge, farmer-led innovation and sustainable livelihoods.

For Tripura, the gathering represents more than a two-day training programme. It is an effort to build a community of progressive farmers who can learn together, practice on the ground, inspire others and promote a more resilient and sustainable agricultural future for the state.

Smt. Tanushri Bhattacharyya, General Manager, NABARD, Tripura Regional Office, visited Madhab Bari ADC Village, West Tripura, to review Yuva Vikash Kendraโ€™s (YVK) ongoing โ€œPopularisation of Integrated Fish Farming Systemโ€ project.

She interacted with the women farmer beneficiaries, listened to their experiences and challenges, reviewed the grassroots progress, and encouraged them towards sustainable and diversified livelihoods.

๐ŸŽ Red apple saplings were also distributed among the beneficiaries to promote integrated horticulture and strengthen farm-based income opportunities.

The visit was a meaningful encouragement for our women farmers and reaffirmed the importance of collaboration between NABARD, YVK and farming communities for sustainable rural development.
