🌊 The ocean is one of the planet’s most powerful natural climate regulators, absorbing around 30% of the carbon dioxide generated by human activity. 💨🌍

But as pressures on marine ecosystems continue to grow, protecting the ocean has never been more important.

This World Oceans Day is a reminder that every action we take to care for our oceans also helps protect our future. 🌊

09/06/2026

The ocean does far more than shape our coastline; it helps sustain every breath we take. 🌊

More than half of the world’s oxygen is produced in the ocean by tiny marine organisms drifting beneath the surface.

This year’s World Oceans Day theme, 'Strong Marine Protected Areas for Our Blue Planet', reminds us that healthy oceans are essential for a healthy planet. 🌍

★★★ Between the Showers ★★★
Despite the mixed weather and the coolness, there was some decent butterfly activity nearby. A few Cryptic Wood Whites about (distinguished by the rounded tip to its forewing), and the first Ringlet of the season for this recorder. Most were hugging the tractor pathway soaking in the heat off the clay.

★★★ Killing a hedgerow ★★★
A member noticed a local earthen bank-hedgerow that was just recently full of wildflowers such as Cornsalad, Herb Robert, Creeping Buttercup, Mouse-ear, Common Vetch, Scarlet Pimpernels, and others, had been needlessly annihilated by toxic spray. Gone are the lovely wildflowers as well as the pollinators and other insects and birds that feed there. We really must do better and stop the reckless use of such poisons. Though not needed, strimming would have been a more sustainable solution for this domestic property boundary. The thing is too that these earthen banks need the plant rooting systems to hold them together and function effectively as a boundary. Without these binding root systems the bank will erode and crumble in time. The Wexford Country Council's proposed Biodiversity Action Plan sets out a number of actions to address such needless harm.
