🎗️⚖️ Men’s Health Week: Connecting Weight & Bowel Cancer Risk
This Men’s Health Week (15th–21st June), the HSE and Men’s Health Forum in Ireland are focusing on this year's theme: "One Step at a Time – Progress, Not Perfection." 👣
Did you know that carrying extra body weight is a major, preventable risk factor for bowel cancer? Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting men in Ireland, but making small, manageable changes to our weight and diet can significantly lower that risk.
You don't need a grueling gym routine or a restrictive diet to make a difference. Protect your health by picking just one simple step this week:
* 🍏 Add more fibre: Swapping to whole grains (like brown bread or oats) and adding an extra handful of veg to your dinner supports a healthy weight and directly protects your digestive system.
* 🚶♂️ Move for 10 minutes: A brisk 10-minute walk on your lunch break helps manage weight, boosts energy, and stimulates bowel health.
* 🩺 Don't delay a check: Be aware of changes in your bowel habits, blood, or unexplained weight loss. If you are eligible for the HSE BowelScreen programme, make sure to complete and return your home test kit when it arrives.
*
Forget perfection. Focus on making one small progress step for your health today. What’s your step going to be? 👇
