A sincere thank you to everyone who took the time to attend our Dementia Inclusive Community Information Evening this evening.

We were delighted to welcome members of our local community groups and individuals who came along to learn more about dementia and how, together, we can help make our community a more understanding, supportive and inclusive place for people living with dementia and their families.

A special word of thanks to Gemma and Áine, our Dementia Advisers with the Alzheimer Society of Ireland, for their wonderful and informative presentation. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, insights and advice with us.

It was lovely to see people taking an interest in this important topic. By coming together, asking questions and sharing knowledge, we can all play a part in building a more dementia-inclusive community.

🎃 Did you know? The Irish origins of the Jack-o’-Lantern 🎃

Long before pumpkins became the symbol of Halloween, people in Ireland carved turnips to make lanterns!
According to Irish folklore, Stingy Jack was a trickster who was refused entry to both Heaven and Hell. Condemned to wander the earth, he carried a glowing ember inside a hollowed-out turnip to light his way.
The story is one of the traditions associated with Samhain, the ancient Irish festival marking the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter.
When Irish emigrants brought their Halloween customs to America, the turnip lantern tradition eventually gave way to pumpkins, which were much easier to carve.

Today we celebrate older people in our community — their stories, wisdom, memories and the special place they hold in our lives.
At Cuan Aoise Memory Cafe Fethard we believe every story matters and everyone deserves to feel seen, valued and included.
For those living with dementia, and for the families and friends who support them, connection, kindness and a welcoming community can make all the difference.

We’ve been busy at Cuan Aoise Memory Café!
Today we got creative and made our very own scarecrow to take part in Fethard Festivals Scarecrow Festival 🎃
There was lots of creativity and plenty of fun along the way. We can’t wait to see our scarecrow out and about in the community!
Well done to everyone who helped bring her to life! 👏😊
