Do you know about the Seniors Alert Scheme?

🏡 If you’re 65 or older and have limited means, you may qualify for a free monitored personal alarm for your home.

💵 Your alarm is installed for free and monitoring is free for the first year. After that, you pay an annual monitoring fee of about €70.

You may qualify for this means-tested scheme if you:

âś… Live alone or spend long periods alone
âś… Live with someone over 65 on a low income
âś… Care for someone at home

You must also live in an area covered by the scheme, be able to benefit from the equipment, and willing to stay in contact with the local group running the scheme in your area.

Is your rent going up?

There are rules about rent increases that your landlord must follow. 🏠

⬆️ Your rent can only increase by the rate of inflation or 2% per year, whichever is lower.

📊 This means if the rate of inflation is 1.5%, your rent can only increase by 1.5%. But if inflation is at 3%, your rent can only increase by up to 2%.

The 2% cap doesn’t apply to:

🔨 Newly built apartments
🧑‍🎓 Student accommodation

Want to recycle your v**e?

🚫 Most v**es and e-cigarettes have batteries, so they shouldn’t be put in your bin at home. Instead, you can bring them to a Blue Battery Box.

🟦 You can find Blue Battery Boxes in:

âś… Local recycling centres
âś… Newsagents
âś… Supermarkets
âś… Schools
âś… Workplaces

💡 If you can’t find a Blue Battery Box, you can bring your v**e or e-cigarette back to the shop you bought it in.

⚠️ If your v**e or e-cigarette is rechargeable, make sure you remove the tank before recycling. If your v**e or e-cigarette isn’t rechargeable, then you don’t need to take it apart before recycling.

Yesterday marked a truly momentous and proud occasion for Clonmel Citizens Information Service as we officially opened our new, state of the art information centre in Tower House, New Quay, Clonmel.

We were deeply honoured to welcome Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary to Clonmel to perform the official opening of our new centre. His presence and support underscored the importance of accessible, high-quality information services within our communities.

We would like to extend a special word of thanks to the Mayor of Clonmel Pat English, and to the Chairman of North Munster Citizens Information Service Martin Quinn, for their thoughtful and eloquent speeches. Both spoke with great insight about the vital role our service plays and the meaningful contribution it continues to make to the town of Clonmel and its residents.

We were delighted to be joined by so many service partners and supporters on the day. Our sincere thanks to representatives from MABS, Intreo, St Vincent de Paul, Cuan Saor Women’s Refuge, Clonmel Community Network, Family Carers Ireland and Tipperary Volunteer Centre, as well as the County Councillors, TDs, and Senators who attended. We were also pleased to welcome our colleagues from Clare, Waterford, and Limerick Citizens Information Services. Your presence helped make the day a truly special celebration of community collaboration and shared purpose.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Derek Fanning from Tipperary Volunteer Centre for capturing such beautiful photographs on the day. These images will serve as lasting memories of a very special occasion for our service and our community.

We wish to acknowledge and thank the Board of North Munster CIS for their unwavering support and guidance throughout this project. In particular, we extend our gratitude to Milo Walsh and Jacqueline Sweeney for their dedication and invaluable assistance in bringing this new premises to fruition.

We would also like to sincerely thank Ciaran Casey - Regional Manager of North Munster along with our funder - the Citizens Information Board who was represented on the day by Graham Long and Susan Shanahan, for their continued support and encouragement throughout this project. Their guidance and backing have been instrumental in helping us reach this significant milestone.

Special recognition must be given to our Information Officers, Fiona and Lisa, who work tirelessly every day to ensure that the people of Clonmel can access their rights and entitlements. Their professionalism, compassion, and commitment to going above and beyond for every individual who uses our service are truly commendable.

We are incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated team of volunteers in Clonmel. Sincere thanks to Aniko, Anne, Breda, Billy, and Bridget, who so generously give their time and energy each week to support the people of our community. Their selflessness and dedication are at the very heart of what we do.

A heartfelt thank you is also due to our CE participants — Ailish, Carol, Marie, and Olena — whose hard work and commitment have been instrumental in preparing for this new chapter.

And finally we would like to express our immense gratitude to Darren Ryan (Regional Manager North Munster CIS) and Fiona Dwyer (Administrator) for the extraordinary work they carried out in securing and fitting out the new centre. The scale of what was achieved in such a short timeframe is remarkable, and the exceptional finish of the centre stands as a testament to their diligence, expertise, and unwavering commitment.

This new centre represents not just a building, but a renewed commitment to serving the people of Clonmel with dignity, respect, and excellence. We look forward to continuing to support our community for many years to come from our new home in Tower House.

Thank you to everyone who made this day so memorable!
