Exciting news from Warden Beach, Portsalon! At last we have communication and action between all the teams and the promise of an end to the drastic dune erosion, a river diverted to a more sustainable channel and restored public access to this popular beach. Well done contractor, Council, local landowners, University of Galway and our team of volunteers. The project will be monitored closely over the coming months and years!

Now all we need is for the Summer to return!

Schools Visits

It was great seeing two of our local primary schools down enjoying and making use of our beaches today. St. Davadogs N.S., Tamney were at the White Shore, Rinmore for a session on local
wildlife with Aengus Kennedy from NatureNorthWest.

Meanwhile, Drumfad N.S. seniors had made their way by bicycle (with the juniors joining them by bus) to Ballymastocker for a beach clean. For most of these pupils, it was the first time they had had to access the beach via our new walkway. Both schools were ‘treated’ to a short explanation of the importance of our dunes and the work of the Fanad Coastal Group. Hopefully there’ll be some new future members amongst them. The sun even came out to play and hopefully the ice cream van Richard spotted when he was leaving Ballymastocker was still there when the boys and girls were coming back up off the beach…🍦😋

Bhí sé iontach daltaí Drumfad agus An Tamhnaigh a fheiceáil ag tabhairt cuairte ar ár dtránna inniu agus suim acu sa obair atá Grúpa Cósta Fhánada a dhéanamh. St. Davaddog’s NSNaturenorthwest
