Sense at last!! We can not state enough that we are all pro renewables but the balance has to be right and not at the risk of food security. Put solar panels on every roof in Ireland first!!

This may be up and running but the hell the residents went through during construction was unreal.

Cork-headquartered Perigus Energy (formerly Ørsted onshore) has confirmed that its first Irish solar farm is completed and fully operational to generate renewable electricity for the Irish grid.

The 81 MW solar farm, located in Garreenleen, Co Carlow, approximately 15km outside of Carlow town, will produce enough green electricity to power the equivalent of 29,000 Irish homes.

The Garreenleen solar farm brings Perigus Energy’s island of Ireland operational capacity from 373 MW to 454 MW, and to 668 MW Europe-wide across Ireland, UK, Germany and Spain.

Construction on the project began in June 2024 after Perigus Energy was awarded the contract under the Government’s Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS 3) auction in October 2023.

Now that planning signs are back up and the planning is on the council portal it is time to get our submissions clinics up and going again. If you did a letter via the clinic last time your letter is ready for you. Please call to one of the clinics with 20 euro cash per submission.
