We look forward to welcoming you all to a join DANUBE DAY in Budapest, Hungary, on Saturday 21st June 2025 from 10 a.m. at the Generali Children's Island (Shipyard Island-Hajógyárisziget)

The Danube Day 2025 will take place on 21 June 2025 in the framework of the General Children's Island. The aim of the programme is to raise awareness of the Danube, the values of wildlife and water resources in and around it, and the importance of protecting them in a playful and fun way.
Children and families are welcome to participate in a variety of activities throughout the day:
fish stocking in the Danube,
building a dam,
reading a water meter,
demonstrations of the operation of a Sand boil "buzgár",
water sampling from a cart,
and a number of puzzles and colouring activities.
We also offer a special experience for those who want to get a closer look at the hidden wildlife of the Danube - including crabs, dragonflies, water fleas and large chiggers.

OVF – MHT Event, June 5, 2025
On June 5, 2025, the first national-level stakeholder forum was held within the framework of the Danube Water Balance project, co-organized by the Hungarian Hydrological Society.
At the hybrid-format event, colleagues from the Hungarian institutions involved in the project (OVF, BME) presented the main objectives of the initiative. Participants gained detailed insights into data collection related to an international watershed - covering topics such as data harmonization and the issue of data gaps. The operation of the CWatM model was also presented, and attendees had the opportunity to ask questions regarding its applicability in the water management sector.

2025 (May 2, 2025)
The Danube Water Balance project was prominently featured during the European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly 2025 in Vienna, Austria, in a dedicated session titled „Water balance and integrated water management in transboundary systems”.
The session opened with a presentation on developing a “Safe Operating Space” framework for water management in the Danube River Basin, followed by discussions on hazardous substance emissions, persistent pollutants.

Danube Water Balance project partners met for an intense 3-day training in Sofia, Bulgaria hosted by Bulgarian Water Association. The training was aimed to involve the most advanced model experts from the given partner institutions in order to foster their continued engagement and strengthen their ability to transfer knowledge and expertise to other stakeholders.

This training represents a significant step towards fostering knowledge and expertise for stakeholders, not only from water management sector, which will contribute to the broad adoption of a common model at Danube basin level.

EGU General Assembly 2025 (Vienna, AT and Online)

Next year's EGU General Assembly will be held 27 April–2 May 2025, both on-site in Vienna, Austria, and virtually.
The EGU General Assembly 2025 (https://egu25.eu/) brings together geoscientists from all over the world to one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth, planetary, and space sciences. The EGU aims to provide a forum where scientists, especially early career researchers, can present their work and discuss their ideas with experts in all fields of geoscience.

On the initiative of the Danube Water Balance project a section will also be launched for the Danube basin where all applicants with a presentation of their results are welcome:
HS2.1.7 Danube water – past, current and future water resources in a transboundary river system
https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU25/session/51990

The abstract submission deadline is 15 January 2025, 13:00 CET.

Guidelines on how to submit an abstract:
https://www.egu25.eu/programme/how_to_submit.html

Three participation support schemes have been put in place by the EGU Council to facilitate the widest possible participation in EGU25. Please also see the registration page for details, as you may need to submit your abstract by 13:00 CET on 2 December 2024 if you wish to receive a travel grant:
https://www.egu25.eu/attend/register.html

The success of the event highly depends on the number of abstracts/contributions we will receive.
In order to get as many abstract submissions as possible for this session, I would like to kindly ask you to actively promote the call to your known stakeholders and target organisations.

If you have questions/comments related to EGU, please contact Juraj Parajka at [email protected]

2ND PROJECT MEETING. The productive two-day event was organised by the Romanian National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management hosting representatives of project partners and ICPDR. The meeting aimed at consolidating the project collaboration of the project consortium and discussing and solving the current challenges of the implementation of DWB. Another aspect of the meeting was to share a complete demonstration of the water balance modelling capabilities with the CWatM model. Main objectives of the meeting were: • To review in detail the activities and Work Plan and share responsibilities; • To agree on internal processes for Project management; • To discuss the data collection status and the climate change scenarios; • Data management and tools development; • CWatM model demonstration; • To agree on further immediate steps (next months)
The meeting ended with a review of the project’s achievements and a plan for the next steps, showing the DWB Project’s strong teamwork effort to work successfully on accomplishing the main goals of the project.
