Konbit Haiti is a collaborative movement with local leaders as the heroes to their communities development. When foreigners partner with locals, instead of implementing projects or ideas, locals are empowered and transformation is sustainable.

Years ago, we supported a community way atop the mountains to build a rain catchment tank. It was so rural that we built out part of the road to get materials to this community. With the influx of displaced people seeking refuge in the mountains, they have wanted to make sure their tank is working well. They are still using their catchment tank and have made some important fixes along the way! This is what happens when community members are trained and local materials are used. Thanks for being a part! 💦

May hosts National Nurses Week and the 2026 theme is "The Power of Nurses, honoring the strength, compassion and impacct of nurses everywhere." We are so thankful for the nurses that have shown up for Konbit Haiti over the years- teaching and empowering community health workers in areas where medical care is scarce, caring for the sick in communites where we work (and our own staff!), teaching about everything from clean water to wound care. We have had nurses rally around a chronically ill member of Konbit to help change his life and give him more life, we have had local nurses help kids and their parents be more empowered about their health. We are looking forward to 2026 and beyond- involving even more international nurses (and other medical professionals) with local medical care to provide holistic support in Haiti and the DR! Nurses, we are thankful for you!

Today is May 1, which is known in Haiti as Agriculture Day! Soon we will be checking up on our previous small farm projects we helped start with people in La Gonav, where resources are extremely hard to come by. Thanks to your support, people are growing their own food in extreme food deserts.

We have been working on the other side of Hispaniola, the Dominican Republic, for several years now. Recently, we have been working with a community development partner in rural Dominican Republic to find solutions for water and sanitation issues! 💦
