Our sincere thanks to Her Excellency Counsellor Amal Ammar, President of the Egyptian National Council for Women, المجلس القومي للمرأة for her address at the Cairo day of the Circular Gaia Symposium 2026 on 11 October, and for the Council's contribution to the Forum.

In her speech, Counsellor Amal Ammar described the move to the green, circular and blue economies as a genuine economic path rather than an environmental orientation alone — one that opens new room for investment, production and employment, with women as a productive force able to innovate and lead.

She set out what that looks like in practice at the National Council for Women: a composting project turning organic waste into a product of economic value for rural women; training for women in Kafr El-Sheikh in fish and fish-processing industries; and the Council's role in the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, whose third edition drew 1,151 submissions in the women's category. She pointed to the shrimp-shell recycling project in Shakshouk, Fayoum, as an example of circularity and social return going together, and to the Council's work at successive COPs in tying gender equality to climate justice.

Sherif Abdel Rahim, Chief Executive Officer of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency, وزارة التنمية المحلية والبيئةfor hosting and co-organising the Cairo day of the Circular Gaia Symposium 2026 at Cairo House, Fustat, on 11 October — and for opening it with his address, in which he also conveyed the greetings of H.E. Prof. Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Environment.

In his speech, Eng. Sherif Abdel Rahim noted that the circular economy is no longer a waste-management footnote but an economic model that reshapes how we design, produce, consume and reuse. He placed it alongside Egypt's presidency of the Bureau of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention for 2026–2027, the commitments of the Cairo Ministerial Declaration, and the preparation of a first integrated national blue economy strategy. He also underlined the role of women as partners in innovation, investment and decision-making — a thread that ran through our Cairo panel as well.
