The 2026 Poppy Appeal has been launched today around the Country.

Westhoughton Royal British Legion and the Poppy Appeal Team were delighted to be able to hand over the 1st Poppy of the Westhoughton Poppy Appeal to Westhoughtons Deputy Mayor, Cllr Linda Maher.

Cllr Linda Maher writes "I was very honoured and privileged as Deputy Mayor of Westhoughton to receive the first Poppy of the Westhoughton Poppy Appeal from Marcus Pollard, Chairman of the Westhoughton Branch of the Royal British Legion and Steve Conneely, Poppy Appeal Manager, from the Royal British Legion. As we start to commemorate and remember all those who gave their lives, who served and who are still serving in all the forces. Their legacy lives on. With gratitude and respect help us to remember them."

In Memory of David Chadwick

It is with great sadness that Westhoughton Branch of The Royal British Legion has learned of the passing of our friend, former Mayor of Bolton, David Chadwick.

David was a genuine friend and supporter of our Branch, and we will remember him with great affection.

This photograph was taken when David kindly invited members of Westhoughton RBL to the Mayor’s Parlour to help us celebrate the 105th anniversary of the Royal British Legion. It was a very special occasion for our Branch, made all the more memorable by the warmth of the welcome David gave us.

His service to the people of Bolton, and the friendship and support he showed to organisations such as ours, will not be forgotten.

Our thoughts are with his wife Valerie, David’s family, friends and all those who knew him at this very sad time.

Rest in peace, David.
You will be greatly missed.

From everyone at Westhoughton Branch, The Royal British Legion.

Last Week Branch Members Martin and Jimmy attended the Chelsea Pensioner Event held in the Minden Suite of the Fusilier Museum in Bury. They enjoyed the day which included a talk, a concert, lunch, raffle and a badge presentation and then an opportunity to have a chat and photos with these remarkable people.
