Brent Youth Employment Taskforce 💼👥

We brought together employers, education providers, housing associations, charities, community organisations and, most importantly, young people for the first Brent Youth Employment Taskforce workshop.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to such thoughtful and honest discussions, including colleagues from Shaw Trust, Imperial College London, Department for Work & Pensions HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation MTVH The Hyde Group SNG - Sovereign Network Group and many more.

Special thanks to Hilton London Wembley Wembley for hosting us, Brent Council for helping make the event possible, and our brilliant Youth Employment Ambassadors Temi, Maia and Pedro for sharing their experiences and ideas.

One message came through loud and clear: every young person deserves a fair chance to succeed, regardless of their background.

We have the people, the ideas and the commitment - now it’s time to build on those partnerships and challenge the barriers!

It was fantastic to see leaders from London Sport, Sport England and Brent Active Together come together to visit organisations across Brent and see first-hand the difference local partnerships are making.

We visited community venues and met with partners, hearing how collaboration across sectors is helping to break down barriers to physical activity and improve health and wellbeing outcomes. Days like these are a great reminder of what can be achieved when residents, organisations, public services and partners work together towards a shared goal.

Brent Active Together is creating more opportunities for people to be active in ways that reflect the needs and priorities of the people who live there. The additional £1.6 million investment through Sport England’s Place Expansion programme is a real vote of confidence in this work. It’s encouraging to see continued investment in Brent and the power of collaboration to drive positive change for our community!

Celebrating - a reminder of the importance of creating opportunities and the difference collaboration can make in helping young people take their next steps into the world of work 💼

With around 1 million young people aged 16-24 currently not in education, employment or training, bringing together employers, schools, charities and communities to remove barriers and create meaningful opportunities is more important than ever.

It was great to see this shared commitment at yesterday’s launch of the West London Youth Employment Roadmap, which brought together Employers, Education, Local Authorities and the Third Sector to explore how we can better connect young people with the support they need.

One thing that really stood out was the role of the third sector - and of course we would say this! Charities and community organisations are often closest to young people, understanding their experiences and helping to build the confidence, skills and connections that can make a real difference.

The roadmap focuses on four key areas:
✅ Raising awareness and aspirations early
✅ Improving access to high-quality, inclusive experiences
✅ Strengthening collaboration across the system
✅ Supporting transitions and progression into work

shop at Anchor Youth Hub! The hub will serve young people, local organisations and community members throughout the week across a purpose-built facility.

We are looking for an operator who shares our values and sees this as more than a place to trade. It’s an opportunity to create a welcoming community space while helping young people build skills, confidence and pathways into employment. We are especially interested in organisations that can offer structured training and work experience for young people from Brent.

When people talk about supporting young people in Brent, they are often talking about small charities.

This year’s theme ‘Small charities - Big impact’ perfectly captures the contribution of the grassroots organisations supporting children and young people across our borough.

These organisations may not always make headlines, but their impact is felt every day. Deeply rooted in our communities, they understand local needs, build strong connections and create opportunities where they are needed most, often while working with limited resources and responding to growing demand.

Over the last decade, more than 532 organisations in and around Brent have been part of the Young Brent Foundation network - many being small charities and grassroots organisations and we’ve had the privilege of working alongside them, seeing their passion and the difference they make.

We want to shine a light on and celebrate all small charities - our members, volunteers, trustees and community leaders who make this sector amazing! Thank you!

Progress Update! 🚧🔨

Construction of the Church End Youth Anchor is well underway, bringing us one step closer to opening a brand new youth hub in Brent!

Created with and for local young people, this hub will be a dedicated space for young people to connect, create, access support and thrive.

We can’t wait to welcome the community through the doors and see this vision come to life! 💚

We’re delighted to introduce our new trustees! 🎉

Tianae Gould is a senior leader in children and young people’s services with extensive experience across the voluntary, education, and statutory sectors. She leads borough-wide provision supporting young carers and vulnerable children, working closely with schools, local authorities, health services, and community organisations. Her expertise spans safeguarding, wellbeing, SEND, and mental health, with a strong focus on building integrated, multi-agency approaches that improve outcomes for young people.

Abi Ajibola joins us with a strong background as an IT professional and Associate Director in the biopharmaceutical sector. Alongside her career, she is committed to community and youth development, serving as a youth pastor and leader, as well as a school governor. She is also a certified leadership facilitator, delivering training that empowers professionals to build confidence, and develop effective leadership skills.

Temi Sobayo is a Business and Management student at The University of Reading. She has previously contributed to YBF through the Flourishing Futures programme as a Youth Employment Ambassador, addressing barriers to employment and creating opportunities for young people.

We are excited to have them join our board of trustees! 💚
