Today, we at BSNL join Brahmin communities across the world in honouring the legacy, wisdom, and contributions of our community.

Vishwa Brahman Divas - meaning World Brahmin Day - is a celebration to commemorate the pride of Brahmin communities in the Hindu tradition, observed every year on 1st June.

The day marks the birth anniversary of the great Indian philosopher and diplomat Acharya Chanakya, whose teachings on ethics, knowledge, and dharma remain as powerful today as they were thousands of years ago.

In 2021, Brahmin community organisations across the world came together to declare 1st June as Vishwa Brahman Divas, in recognition of Chanakya’s enduring legacy and the Brahmin community’s contributions throughout history.

Here in North London, we are proud to be part of a global community that continues to uphold these timeless values of knowledge, dharma, and service - right here in the heart of the UK.

To all our members, families, and the wider Hindu community - wishing you a blessed and meaningful Vishwa Brahman Divas.

Together in heritage. United in dharma.

The Earth takes a few hours over 365 days to travel around the Sun. These extra hours amount to a full day every 4th year, hence we have 29 days in February in leap years to allow the calendar to synchronise correctly. Similarly, there is are 11 days, 1 hour, 31 minutes and 12 seconds difference between the solar year and the lunar year. Since Hindu calendars are based on the Moon, every 32 to 33 months, we have the equivalent of an extra month built up. So to synchronise the two calendars, and extra month is inserted in the Hindu calendar.

Without this correction, Hindu festivals would shift seasons. Diwali might fall in summer. Holi might land in winter. The extra month keeps everything aligned perfectly especially for India's seasonal farming cycle. Often referred to as Adhik (extra) Maas (month), or Mal (impure) Maas since no religious festivals take place either.

People considered it bad luck. They avoided all auspicious events during it, however Lord Vishnu changed it completely by adopting the month. He declared it the most sacred of all months. Since then, Mal Maas became Purushottam Maas forever. Purush means “being” or “soul.” Uttam means “supreme” or “highest.” Together, Purushottam means “the Supreme Being.” This is also one of the most beloved names of Lord Vishnu. Hindus also use this name for Lord Krishna. Chapter 15 of the Holy scripture, The Bhagavad Gita is called Purushottam Yoga. In that chapter, Lord Krishna calls himself the Supreme Being who transcends all.

During this month, all devotees should chant Lord Vishnu’s names, read the Bhagavad Gita and Bhagavatam, fast on ekadashi (11th day) make donations of food, clothes, and money to the needy, visit temples and holy sites, live a simple, satvik life, light lamps to Lord Vishnu everyday and practice meditation, prayer and Bhakti for inner reflection.

This month, all Hindus will avoid all weddings/marriage ceremonies, any griha pravesh (house warming ceremony), any new business ventures, or purchasing expensive items or jewellery, all non-vegetarian food and alcohol, negative speech or thoughts, and should respect our elders and holy community.

Purushottam Maas is hence a very auspicious month for acheiving good Karma.

A very Happy Purushottam Maas from everyone at BSNL.
Aum namo bhagavate vasudevaya!

Gujarat today celebrates the 66th Anniversary of its foundation today, May 1. This auspicious occasion marks the birth of the state after the division of the Bombay State in 1960 along boundaries of language with Gujaratis in Gujarat and Marathis in Maharashtra. Gujarat, is India's ninth-largest state by population and fifth-largest by area.

It is home to over 6 crore (60 Million) people. The state shares borders with Pakistan in the northwest, with Rajasthan in the north, with Madhya Pradesh in the east and with Maharashtra and the Union territories of Diu, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli in the south. The Arabian Sea borders the Gujarat state both to the west and southwest.

Akshaya Tritiya falls on Sunday 19th April 2026.
Akshaya Tritiya Puja Muhurat - 06:19 AM to 01:00 PM

Akshaya Tritiya known in Gujarat as Akha Trij is highly auspicious and holy day for Hindus. Tritiya means third day in the month of Vaishakh. Akshaya means never diminishing, hence the benefits of doing any Japa, Yajna, Pitra-Tarpan, Dan-Punya on this day will never diminish and remain with the person forever. This day is believed to bring good luck and success.

Akshaya Tritiya day is ruled by God Vishnu is the preserver God within the Trinity, whose 6th incarnation Parshuram usually has His birthday today. We pray to the dual representation of God Vishnu (also known as Narayan) Lakshmi Narayan, with Lakshmiji being the Goddess of prosperity and beauty. Many people purchase Gold on this day as it is believed it brings prosperity and more wealth in coming future.

On Akshaya Tritiya you don't need to consult the muhurat to start or perform any auspicious work as it is free from all negative effects
