✈️🕷️ RAF Cosford Airshow 2026 🕷️✈️

This weekend, 20 Air Cadets and 2 CFAVs from 273 (Wallasey) Sqn joined others from across Merseyside Wing at this year's RAF Cosford Airshow.

In total, over 420 personnel from Merseyside Wing were in attendance, making us one of the largest groups at the airshow.

Our Air Cadets enjoyed a full and exciting day, across the showground. They got to see static aircraft displays and speak to pilots and crew, they got to interact with industry partners from across the aerospace and defence sectors, they got to see the future of our own organisation with demonstrations in the RAFAC Village, and of course they got to experience the air displays from the likes of the Red Arrows.

One of the big highlights for our Squadron was seeing the Dutch C-130 on static display, which bore the tail number G-273. Of course, we had to get a group photo in front of it, showing that our Sqn number shows up everywhere.

Our Air Cadets got some wonderful photos throughout the day, and we'll be sharing them with you all soon, so keep you eyes peeled.

We've recently had someone named Roger Davies tag our Squadron, unknowingly, in a political post.

We would like to state outright that 273 (Wallasey) Squadron does not know this individual, nor do we we condone the tagging of our Squadron in any post of this nature.

This person has no affiliation to our Squadron, nor has he ever been to our squadron.

His page seems to be entirely political, with multiple posts being put up every single day. We as an organisation and a Squadron are apolitical and we do not post anything of a political nature.

Once again, this person, his politics, and his post are nothing to do with us.

🏃🕷️ Port Sunlight 10k 🕷️🏃

On Sunday, our Squadron once again teamed up with to volunteer with handing out medals, goody bags, and t-shirts at the Port Sunlight 10k race.

There were, in fact, three races held on the day. First was the 5k, followed by the main 10k, and finally a 1k family fun-run.

This is the second time we've worked with both 7F and BTR, having previously worked with them at the Mersey Tunnel 10k only a matter of weeks ago. And this was just as fun an event as was that.

With over 20 Air Cadets and several CFAVs all working as one for this event, this was a fitting end to Volunteers' Week 2026, showing what can be achieved when we all come together as one community.

Thank you to everyone from both Squadrons for your incredible hard work and dedication, and thank you to BTR for inviting us to volunteer. We look forward to working with you again very soon.

🕷️🥾 DofE Expedition 🥾🕷️

Over this weekend, three of our Air Cadets joined others from 610 (City of Chester) Sqn to undertake their DofE Bronze qualifying Expedition.

The Air Cadets, split into two teams walked from Fron Farm around Clwydian Range, over two days, taking in some beautiful sights along the way. They carried all of their kit and demonstrated excellent camp craft, as well as strong timkeeping and discipline throughout the expedition!

We are incredibly proud of their achievements, and look forward to them having their DofE Bronze awards completed and signed off very soon.

🎉🕷️ Celebrating Excellence 🕷️🎉

Every month we celebrate one of our Air Cadets who has excelled and stood head and shoulders above their peers.

This month's recipient of the Cadet of the Month Trophy is Cdt E McKeever.

Cdt McKeever has been with the Squadron for a little while now, and over time has been establishing himself at the core of our group of Cadets with his enthusiasm, high spirits, and morale.

Since the Squadron moved all it's separate WhatsApp Groups into a single WhatsApp Community, it has become apparent to the staff that Cdt McKeever is extremely vocal on this platform too. Of particular note, he is almost always the first to help newer Air Cadets by answering their questions and offering advice and guidance. It has truly been spectacular to see this side of him that had until recently been hidden from us.

We look forward to seeing him continue helping our younger Air Cadets into the future.

🕷️ Meet The Staff 🕷️

As it's Volunteers' Week, we'd like to take this time to introduce you to our dedicated team of Squadron Staff. Each week they volunteer their own time in order to provide our young people with the best possible Air Cadet experience.

Meet our Chaplain, Padre C Houghton.

Padre Houghton first joined RAFAC in 1989 as an Air Cadet at 2247 (Hawarden) Sqn.

More recently, she has rejoined the organisation by joining our Squadron as our Chaplain, bringing boundless enthusiasm and pastoral care to our young people.

Padre Houghton conducts all of our enrolment parades and is a regular at squadron, promoting welfare and running wellbeing workshops. Occasionally she'll even bust out the karaoke machine and get everyone singing.
