🌱🥕 Fancy starting a community growing space on the Island?

Or perhaps you're already involved in a thriving community garden where local people come together to grow fruit and veg, share the workload, and enjoy the rewards of a 🌽🍓 shared harvest?

As part of the We the 33 Project, funding from the council is available to help get new community growing projects off the ground and support local food-growing initiatives. 🌿

🚧 The safety of residents is always our top priority, and our Environment and Coast Team have therefore been closely monitoring the protective boards installed along Lake Cliffs.

These boards were initially installed to reduce weather-related erosion and protect the area 🌊

However, some sections of these boards have now reached the end of their lifespan. In certain areas, erosion has moved beyond them, meaning they no longer provide the protection they were designed for.

Contractors will now begin removing sections of the boards where they are no longer effective 🛠️

There is no immediate danger to the public, however, we always advise keeping a safe distance from the base of cliffs. Take particular extra care in areas where there has been recent movement.

Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe by staying aware and respecting these natural coastal environments 💙

ROAD CLOSURE ~ Carisbrooke Road.
A significant *emergency* road closure message from Southern Water:

Carisbrooke Road, Newport - Road closure starts Monday 8th June for approx ***2 weeks***

Southern Water will be working in the area repairing the sewer, and a section of Carisbrooke Road will be temporarily closed.

These are essential sewer repairs which will help to reduce the risk of sewer blockages, flooding and provide long-term resilience in our network.
They will be starting work on the 8th of June 2026 and hope to be complete within approximately 2 weeks.

The road closure will be near the junction with Trafalgar Road.
Traffic management arrangements and diversion routes have been agreed with the local authority.

Please plan your journey and consider alternative routes, as delays could be likely at times. You may notice additional vehicle movements and activity in the local area. There will be generators, lorries and some noisy machinery, but they will try and minimize the impact wherever possible.

Please see the map which shows the working area and the diversion routes.
