Friends of Upminster Windmill A registered charity dedicated to preserving Upminster Windmill as a community and education facility In 1960, Essex County Council demolished the outbuildings.

Upminster Windmill is a smock windmill which was built in 1803 by James Nokes. It Produced flour up until 1910 and animal feed until its closure in 1934.The mill is a Grade II listed building and in terms of quality, completeness and significance it is widely considered to be amongst the very best remaining English smock mills. When production ceased in 1934, the mill and its many outbuildings inc

luding two mill houses, then became derelict. In the following years, repairs were undertaken to allow the mill to be opened to the public in 1967.

Thanks to everyone who came to see us at the Windmill over the last weekend, and to the vendors at the Craft and Food Market on Saturday. It was great to see lots of smiling faces enjoying the sun and sampling wares, many also choosing to tour our majestic Windmill. [By the way - who ate all these cakes?]

If you missed the weekend, we are open again from 11am to 4pm on Sunday 28th June.

- Kids can bring their Teddy Bears for a special ride around on the Windmill Sails!
- Hot food available from our BBQ!

Come along to Upminster Windmill on 13th, 14th or 28th June - there is something for all the family! The Mill, Visitor Centre and Garden are open to visitors on all three days to tour the fully restored Mill, explore the Visitor Centre to learn of the history of the Mill and its people, or enjoy tea/coffee/cake from our refreshment kiosk in our award winning garden.

On Saturday 13th from 10am to 4pm we will be hosting our summer craft and food market - come and sample the fare from our range of stalls located in the Mill Base and in the Visitor Centre.

We open again from 11am to 4pm on Sundays 14th & 28th June with games and activities for young and old, and on Sunday 28th kids can bring their Teddy Bears for a ride on the Windmill Sails while the family enjoy hot Barbeque food!

Entry to the Market, Garden and Visitor Centre is free. Mill Tours cost £6 Adult, £2 Under 18s. Children must be minimum 1 metre tall.

Mill Visitors must have closed in flat shoes - nothing high heeled, backless or open toed.

Enjoy the ambience of the 223 year old Mill and see the sails turning (weather permitting)
We are open this Sunday 11am until 4 pm.
Tour the fully restored and operational Mill
Use touch screens in the Visitor Centre or talk to our Guides to learn about the history of the mill and its people, its place in the story of Upminster and the story of its restoration
Relax in our peaceful, sunny, award winning garden with tea/coffee and cake from our refreshment kiosk.
Enjoy some old fashioned kids games on the green.
Entry to the Visitor Centre and Gardens is free.

Mill Tours cost £6 adult, £2 Children under 18.

If touring the Mill, access to upper floors is by way of steep, open tread staircases.
Children must be a minimum of one metre tall and able to climb/descend the stairs unaided.
Suitable footwear must be worn – no flip flops, crocs, open toed or high heeled shoes
