Are you passionate about making a difference in your community? We've got two positions available for Senior Customer Service Assistants!

These are and varied roles supporting a wide range of Council services, including homelessness enquiries, benefits, rent, council tax and payment processing. The team also handles National Entitlement Card applications and provides support for customers who are unable to apply online for Blue Badges. Strong communication and customer service skills are essential.

Libraries are welcoming community spaces that help reduce social isolation through a range of activities and services. They are particularly popular with children and young people, and the successful candidate will be confident engaging with all age groups. Duties will include leading Bookbug sessions, sensory story times, coding clubs and other activities for children and families.

As children and young people aged 8+ often use the library independently after school and during holidays, the successful candidate will have experience engaging young people in appropriate activities while balancing the needs of other library users.

The role includes supporting customers to access services online, so strong digital skills are required.

Our teams work flexibly across East Lothian, and the successful candidate will be expected to provide cover at other locations, sometimes at short notice.

Unfortunately, we have had to make the decision to close Ormiston Library on Wednesday 19th August 2026 due to staff shortage. The library will open as normal on Friday 21st August at 10am. We apologise for any inconvenience this will cause.

Summer Reading Challenge - can we smash 500 finishers? 🎯

Schools might be back tomorrow, but there's still time to complete the Summer Reading Challenge before it closes on 22nd August!

So far 950 children have started (up more than 100 on last year!) with 2590 individual challenges completed.

293 of you have already finished - that's amazing - well done all of you 🎉

Last year 494 children completed the challenge - can we smash through that 500 barrier this year?

If you've started, but summer got in the way, pop in to your local library and complete your challenge by 22nd August and remember, everyone who finishes is entered into our prize draw 🏆🎁

Being the biggest animal around has made Elephant very proud. He thinks he’s better than everyone else, and his rude behaviour soon starts to annoy his animal friends. Luckily, a team of quick-thinking squirrels is ready to teach him that being kind is much more important than being big.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 last Friday as part of our 𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙚𝙖𝙩 activities. It was wonderful to see so many people taking part, having fun, and sharing the energy and enthusiasm that make our Switch Fridays so special.
