The Torbay Citizens’ Assembly’s (TCA) primary objective is to provide an independent platform for residents to voice their interests and concerns, achieve change, and make Torbay the best place it can be for them to grow older in.

During the past eighteen months, members of the TCA have set up subcommittees to investigate the current situation for residents regarding Housing, Transport and Health, with their findings being brought to the Assembly’s quarterly Open meetings for further discussion and appropriate action.

Our Strategic Operational Action Group (SOAG) needs new members to support existing volunteers and our associate members, as we plan for the future, so the TCA can continue to grow and provide valuable and positive support to all our members and residents of Torbay. Meetings are held once a month, for approximately two hours at Paignton Library.

Volunteers for the various subcommittees are also needed for the specific projects being reviewed. No expertise is needed, just a genuine interest in the various topics...

Independent Age will be bringing their Listening Roadshow to Paignton Library & Information Centre on Thursday 25th July, as part of the Two Million Too Many campaign, offering a chance for the bay's older people to share:

-How you're managing with household costs
-Issues with renting your home
-What support do you think older people in financial hardship need

"We’re coming to Paignton, Thursday 25th July, to gather the community’s experiences of financial hardship and take them straight to those at the top.

"Across the UK, around 2 million older people are living in poverty and many of us just don’t know it. That’s enough older people to fill Birmingham, Glasgow and Cardiff. We know that lots of older people face constant worry to afford the basics, if they can afford them at all. This can’t go on."

This drop-in session takes place 1-4pm, with refreshments on offer.
