Tenby Sea Cadets

Tenby Sea Cadets Tenby Sea Cadets is situated on the harbour. We are a uniformed youth organisation for 9 - 18 years. What makes us special?

Tenby Sea Cadets aims to promote many life skills such as motivation, self-confidence, leadership, team work, communication, citizenship and innovation. We have a nautical focus and follow customs and traditions of the Royal Navy. We offer a variety of activities and experiences which can be used later on in life. Our cadets regularly attend courses locally and even nationally. There are a wide va

riety of courses open to cadets from the age of 12 including; Catering, Shooting, Sailing, First Aid, Marine Engineering and many more. There are courses that will suit everyone no matter what their interest. For those that are competitive, there are many competitions ranging from Football to Swimming and everything in between held at district, area and national level. We also offer an international exchange programme with Sea Cadets around the world and many cadets enjoy going to sea for a week making friends for life and developing new skills. Local Schools are very supportive of Tenby Sea Cadets and enable them to have time off school for cadet activities. We promote the values of respect, loyalty, self-discipline, commitment, honesty and integrity. Qualifications that can be achieved in Sea Cadets can be recognised outside of the organisation such as BTEC, DofE and Governing Body. Why stay at home when Sea Cadets has so much to offer you????

Thursday 27th August

It's always a great night when we can get Cadets sailing a wonderful evening when we had the chance to take the boats out further into the bay than usual with better wind and more room.

THURSDAY 20th AUGUST

Last night we held our monthly Divisions where, following an inspection of the Cadet's uniforms a Cadet Voice session was held where the views and opinions on what is happening inside the unit and elsewhere are sought. These sessions are important to assess what we are doing well and also not so well in order that the Cadets get the best experience we can offer.
At the end of the evening The CO presented awards to both Cadets and Volunteers.

On Saturday our CO, CPO Dave Richards went to Milford Haven in support of the boating activities taking place over the weekend.

Whilst there he took the opportunity to try his hand at sailing a single handed Zest. He quickly found out the value of the centreboard as he was ceremonially dumped into the sea and watched his boat sail away without him. The dinghy was recovered and following the rectifying of his mistake he was able to handle the dinghy quite well with only one capsize on his first attempt at gybing. Experiences like this are valuable training for safety boat operators.

Every day is a learning day and it shows there is still life in the old boy yet.

Thursday Night Boating

Last Thursday the Cadets were able to go afloat again with sailing and rowing taking place. Our 1st Lt PO Walker had her first taste of sailing in a Quest and the joys of capsize drills in the safe hands of our SSI PO Attwell.

A very enjoyable evening.

Cadets and Cadet Adult Volunteers have returned from the West Wales District Summer Camp at Weymouth National Boating Centre.
A great week with the weather ensuring we didn't miss out on any of the activities, the Cadets enjoyed Sailing, Rowing, Powerboating, Paddlesports, Climbing, Mountain Biking and Catering.

Every Cadet came away with at least one new qualification a superb effort all round with even one of the CAV's getting in on the act.

Our thanks go out to the West Wales District Sea Cadets Team for organising the week and the team at Weymouth National Boat Centre for providing the facility, equipment and Instructors needed for such a varied and challenging week
