What should Tamworth town centre look and feel like in the future?

The draft Local Plan puts the town centre at the heart of Tamworth's future growth and regeneration.

The plan proposes:
🛍️ Making the town centre the primary focus for new retail, leisure and tourism development
🏗️ Continuing the regeneration of key areas including Gungate and Ankerside
🏠 Bringing new homes into the town centre as part of mixed-use regeneration
🍽️ Supporting food, drink, leisure, cultural and community uses
🌙 Strengthening the evening economy
🚶 Improving connections between different parts of the town centre

The aim is to create a vibrant, mixed-use town centre that can adapt to changing shopping and leisure habits.

The town centre strategy focuses regeneration on Gungate and Ankerside, with Ankerside proposed as a mixed-use regeneration opportunity including homes, retail, leisure, food and drink, employment and community uses.

Following months of engagement, the draft Local Plan has reached its latest consultation stage. It will guide how land is used and developed across Tamworth up to 2043 – and this is your chance to have your say on the future of the borough.

🔊The next Community Estate Day is in St Editha's Square on Tuesday 8 September.

These events bring together a range of council services and partner organisations, making it easier to get advice, ask questions, and access support all in one place.

💬Residents are encouraged to come along, speak to housing service teams and local partners including Support Staffordshire, Staffordshire Police, and the illegal money lending team to find out what support is available in the area.

I've been advised that Britain First will be coming to Tamworth on Saturday the 12th of September, not sure who else has seen it and I do hope it comes to nothing.

I would imagine there will be a counter demonstration as discussion of the event is appearing on different social media platforms.

I'm advising my own family to give the town a miss that day to be on the safe side.

I do not condone the actions of this group or any counter actions that involve the use violence of any sort.

How should Tamworth grow and change over the next 20 years?

The Tamworth Local Plan 2022–2043 sets out a framework for how land will be used and developed across the borough – including where new homes, jobs, shops and community facilities could go, while protecting the things that make Tamworth special.

The draft plan covers important issues including:

🏰 Heritage
🌳 Nature and biodiversity
🏠 Housing
💧 Flooding
🏡 Design and placemaking
🚶 Sustainable transport

Good day all,

As your all aware by now Tamworth Borough Council will cease to exist after April / May 2028, currently the elected Councillors have created a sub-group to consider public opinion, and the options for Tamworth post 2028.

Whether to create a Parish Council to initally take on some small aspects of the existing Council or not, the decision will eventually go to Full Council for all Councillors to vote on how we proceed.

If the option to create a Parish Council moves forward, then cinsider options to move forward, one is to start small and to build on the services it can provide, give it chance to crawl/ walk then run, this may well involve taking on services from the Unitary.

What other services would be determined by those who are elected to the Parish and what services the Unitary choose to commission.

You should be getting a letter over the coming weeks which will give more details, including the costs of running a parish council.

I'd recommend you read the letter and make a more informed decision on how you want Tamworth to look post 2028, the draft I've seen has more factual information on it's frame work and costs involved.

The Council will be seeking your views, as will I, this town has a strong tradition in being proud of it's status and possibly long term this will be reflected in a Parish Council.

Once the letters start to go out I'll be knocking a few doors to listen to people's responses, I had intended to start sooner but with the Council sending out a letter to Residents it's possibly better to wait.

I'll be posting a copy of the letter on this Facebook site as soon as it's ready for public release as well.
