It was taken over by the Trust following funding being withdrawn for the Youth Club, by Dorset County Council. An internal refurbishment of the Centre was completed at the end of March 2017 and the freehold of the property was transferred by Dorset County Council to the Development Trust on 28 March 2017. The transfer of the freehold enabled the Trust to complete an occupational licence with Explorers Childcare Group, which took occupation on 1 April 2017. Explorers are utilising the accommodation as an Ofsted approved, full time and wraparound childcare facility, for children 0-5 years old. They are also using it for after-school clubs and a holiday club for children up to 11 years old. With Purbeck Runners renting the space on Wednesday evenings, a SINC (Learning difficulty) Group using it on Thursdays and a new Youth Club, due to commence in September, on Tuesdays and Fridays that just leaves weekends and Mondays available. It is planned to start letting the building out for a range of Community uses from September onwards. This will take the form of one-off events, such as children’s parties, music concerts and weddings rather than regular lettings which can limit the availability for the Community, generally.
