LET’S START A CONVERSATION: When Does Competotopn Start Overriding Loyalty To The Actual Cause?
This is something I think the community and voluntary sector needs to talk about more.
Because sometimes, without even realising it, loyalty to an organisation starts overriding loyalty to the cause we’re supposedly all fighting for.
“We already work with another group.”
“They use another venue.”
“They offer something similar.”
“We don’t want to upset them.”
And suddenly, organisations that exist to help people are making decisions based on relationships, competition and territory rather than one very simple question:
What would be most beneficial for the person standing in front of us?
That worries me.
If another organisation offers something that could genuinely benefit somebody within our community, I WANT them to access it.
Even if they offer something similar to us.
Even if they could technically be considered “competition”.
Because if the cause really comes first, there shouldn't be sides.
Our Men’s Release & Recharge sessions have quite literally helped save lives. We've had men reach incredibly difficult places and find support, connection and somewhere they could finally talk.
So imagine somebody potentially missing that support simply because the group they're connected with feels it would be disloyal to another organisation.
Equally, if another organisation offered something that we believed could help one of our people more than we could, we should be telling them about it.
That's what community means.
Not protecting your patch.
Not worrying about who gets the credit.
Not treating people as numbers that belong to particular organisations.
People don't belong to organisations.
They should be able to move between services, groups and communities and take whatever support works for them.
There is enough isolation, poor mental health, loneliness and struggle in our communities already.
We don't need invisible walls between the organisations trying to tackle them.
So perhaps we need to start asking ourselves:
Are we loyal to our organisation — or are we loyal to the cause?
Because when those two things conflict, I know which one I believe should win.
Every. Single. Time.
And on that note, if you know a man who could benefit from simply being around other men, talking if he wants to, listening if he doesn't, and knowing that he isn't alone — please send him our way.
You don't need to be a Fight Station member.
You don't need to train with us.
You don't need to belong to another organisation.
You don't need to choose sides.
Our next Men’s Release & Recharge is:

And if another organisation is already supporting someone who could benefit from this, please share it with them.
We aren't trying to take anybody's members, service users or community.
We're trying to make sure people get the support they need.
Let’s start that conversation.
Community over competition.
Cause over credit.
People over politics. 🤎
