What may look like “just a game of pool” is often so much more.

Every conversation, mentoring session, board game and warm welcome helps young people feel safe, supported and connected.

Over 2025/2026 our volunteers racked up over 1,700 volunteering hours.

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating the incredible volunteers who give their time to young people across The Mix. We couldn’t do it without you. 💛

💛 The power of volunteering 💛

Here’s a quote from one of our amazing young people, Ravin, who has absolutely loved volunteering at our after-school drop-ins, and at community events.

Volunteering has helped her grow in confidence, build new skills, and support other young people, all while giving something back to her community.

"I love volunteering at The Mix. It has helped me grow in my confidence and my social skills. I feel like I am able to talk to more people from the outside world. I am now able to communicate with cashiers, etc., as I feel more confident in my social ability, something I couldn't do before.
I am more patient and understanding of others through volunteering here. I would struggle with this in the past because of my autism.
I found myself helping a friend understand a game, where in the past I would get frustrated because I couldn’t understand why someone else would struggle with something easy to me.
Now I have no problem explaining things to people that don’t understand, that’s because of helping young people at The Mix after school drop ins."

✨ Volunteering isn’t just about helping others, it’s also about personal growth, confidence, and discovering what you’re capable of.

If you’d like to volunteer with us, support young people, or give back to your local community, we’d love to hear from you.

✨ Job Coaching Spotlight ✨

How local businesses can help change a young person’s future

The Mix’s Together Project supports young people through short- and long-term work placements within the local community.

These opportunities help young people develop valuable workplace skills, build confidence, strengthen social skills, and gain meaningful experience to enhance their CVs.

The project has been particularly beneficial for young people facing challenges such as social anxiety or low confidence, helping them overcome barriers and take positive steps towards employment.

We also support young people with practical tasks at The Mix, such as preparing and folding leaflets, helping them develop transferable skills, build a sense of purpose, and contribute to the work of our charity.

Throughout their placements, young people receive dedicated one-to-one support from experienced youth workers, who provide guidance, encouragement, and practical help to build confidence, manage challenges, and succeed in the workplace.

🌟 Meet Lily
Lily first attended our youth evening drop-ins at The Mix before signing up with our team for employability support. Currently studying Digital Marketing at college, Lily was keen to complete her volunteering hours with our marketing team.

From supporting our social media activity to helping run youth voice focus groups, Lily has brought enthusiasm, creativity, and a genuine passion for marketing to the team.

Lily says:
"Volunteering at The Mix has been an absolute pleasure. No two days are the same, and I have so much fun working with the team.

I first started coming to The Mix through the youth drop-ins and very quickly fell in love with the charity. So, when I needed to find a work placement for college, I knew I wanted to volunteer here.

Since November 2025, I have been helping the marketing team. I’ve loved every minute of my time volunteering, and it has been amazing to support such a fantastic team of people who work behind the scenes to make this charity what it is.

Thank you to everyone at The Mix."

💙 We Need You
We are incredibly grateful to the local businesses that have partnered with us to make these placements possible.

Could your business offer a placement for a young person?

By providing a placement, you can help a young person gain experience, build confidence, and take important steps towards their future.

If you're a local business interested in supporting this initiative, we'd love to hear from you.

Empower will be supporting year 6s on their High School Journey over the next two weeks. With support from our wider youth team and fantastic Empower volunteers, we will visit many primary schools in the local area to deliver PSHE sessions focused on the upcoming transition to high school.

Through interactive activities and open discussions, pupils will have the chance to build confidence and feel more prepared for this exciting next step. We will explore what their new school might be like, answer their questions, and talk through any worries they may have.

A huge thank you to all the schools who have and will welcome us over the next couple of weeks ✨
