REMINDER – Remembrance Sunday 2026

A reminder that Thornaby Town Council’s Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service will take place on Sunday 8th November 2026.

We invite residents, families and members of our wider community to join us as we come together to remember and honour all those who served and sacrificed.

Order of the day:
10:00am – Parade members meet on Cranworth Street, Thornaby-on-Tees, TS17 7DR. Parking will also be available in the top car park of the Queens Club, Westbury Street.
10:15am – Parade assembles on Westbury Street.
10:25am – Parade commences towards the Cenotaph.
10:40am – Remembrance Service and Wreath Laying Ceremony begins at Thornaby Cenotaph, Harewood Pleasure Gardens, Acklam Road, Thornaby-on-Tees, TS17 7JR.

Refreshments provided in the Queen's Club afterwards courtesy of Thornaby Town Council.

Remembrance 2026 | Wearing Your Poppy with Pride

In preparation for tomorrow (22 October), when the wearing of poppies in uniform officially begins, we’re sharing some guidance for cadets and adult volunteers across Central & East Yorkshire Wing.

Wearing a poppy is a simple but meaningful way to honour those who have served and sacrificed, and it’s important that we wear it correctly when in uniform.

Our handy guide explains when poppies may be worn, which type is appropriate for different modes of dress, and where they should be positioned.

As we approach the Remembrance period, we encourage everyone to familiarise themselves with the guidance ahead of upcoming parades and commemorative events.

Promotion alert!

The celebrations continue after our J-Flight graduation, as we recognised a number of well-earned promotions at 266 (Stockton) Squadron!

These promotions recognise the dedication, effort, and leadership our Cadets have shown, alongside their readiness to take on greater responsibility.

Their new ranks bring opportunities to support fellow Cadets, set a strong example, and help shape the Squadron’s future. For our newly graduated flight, it was also a chance to see where their own cadet journey could lead.

Congratulations to the newest fully-fledged Cadets of 266 (Stockton) Squadron on completing their Junior flight training.

From learning their first drill movements to wearing their uniform with pride and earning their First Aid badge, our recruits have taken their first steps int the RAF Air Cadets. Their graduation marks the effort, teamwork, and determination they have shown along the way.

🏆 A special congratulations to Cadet G. Lee, who received the Best in Flight award - fantastic achievement and recognition of the extra mile she undertook, showing nothing but absolute excellence along the way.

Thank you to the families, friends and staff who have supported our newest Cadets. We look forward to seeing what they achieve as they join their flights and make the most of the opportunities ahead.

🎮⚙️ VEX ROBOTICS SEASON 3 IS HERE! ⚙️🎮

This Saturday, cadets and staff from 266 (Stockton) Squadron travelled to Stanley, North Durham to get stuck into the launch of Season 3 of VEX Robotics! 🔥

From discovering what the new season has in store, to exploring the latest VEX has to offer, it was an exciting opportunity to learn, get inspired, and start thinking about the challenges ahead!

But robotics is about more than just building robots… 👀

It’s about teamwork, problem-solving, creativity, and connecting with other squadrons who share the same passion! 🤝💙 We loved catching up with 405 - Darlington RAF Air Cadets and touching base with fellow robotics teams as we gear up for another exciting season! 🏆

The ideas are flowing, Season 3, we’re ready for you! 💪

A message from His Majesty The King for National Cadets Week. 🇬🇧

Across Central & East Yorkshire Wing, we see every week the difference the cadet experience can make. Young people developing confidence, learning new skills, taking on responsibility and discovering what they are capable of.

None of that happens without the commitment behind them.

To our cadets, our volunteers who give their time, the families and employers who support them, and everyone who helps make these opportunities possible, thank you.

We’re incredibly proud to play our part in the wider UK Cadet Forces community and in helping the next generation to thrive.

A reminder that the 2026 Yorkshire Cadet Trust Photography Competition is looking for entries from cadets and adult volunteers across Yorkshire and the Humber.

This year’s theme is “Cadets is great fun”, so dig through your camera roll or get out and capture the moments that show what cadet life is really about.

Flying, fieldcraft, sport, camps, adventure training, shooting, STEM, friendships or those moments that just make you smile. 📷

And there’s a great incentive for your unit, with prizes of £250, £150 and £100 up for grabs!

Get ready for one of the most incredible and rare cosmic events!

On Wednesday 12th August 2026, the Moon is going to slide right in front of the Sun causing a partial solar eclipse. From here in North Region, the Moon will block out up to 96% of the Sun, depending where you are. That means early in the evening between 6:00pm and 8:00pm, the sky will darken, and the Sun will turn into a glowing, fiery crescent!

And what's more, just a few hours after the eclipse, the Perseid meteor shower will reach its peak. Meaning you have a good chance of seeing brilliant lights shooting by in the sky for a two-in-one celestial evening!

Remember... Avoid looking directly at the sun during the eclipse, as it can cause permanent eye damage. During a partial eclipse, the reduced brightness can cause pupils to dilate, allowing more harmful ultraviolet light to reach the retina.

Regular sunglasses do not offer enough protection. Instead, you should use certified eclipse glasses that meet the ISO 12312-2 safety standard or watch the event via an official livestream.

Parents are also advised to supervise children closely.

The eclipse's visibility will depend on the weather.

On July 5th, a select amount of Cadets from 266 (Stockton) Squadron attended our very own Wing Competitions Day, joining units all across Central & East Yorkshire Wing for a full day of activities, putting to the test the skills they have accumulated over the past year in many areas and disciplines.

Our squadron took part in a wide variety of events again this year, including:

• Drill
• Banner Drill
• Leadership
• First Aid
• STEM
• Archery
• Air R***e Shooting
• Aircraft Recognition
• MicroBit Coding

From traditional core skills to newer challenges, our Cadets certainly put their best foot forward and stepped up in many ways - and the results spoke for themselves. Strong performances across the board, fantastic teamwork, and a level of effort that genuinely makes us so very proud.

Whether competing, showing support, or representing the squadron throughout the day, every Cadet showed exactly what RAF Air Cadets is all about.

For the newer Cadets and prospective Cadets: this is exactly what you could be getting up to with 266 (Stockton) Squadron!

Huge well done to all - you did us proud.
