We arrived in the Community Garden to a lovely surprise this morning! The port sign is back in position having been lovingly restored by the Solway Woodcarvers. Then it was down to the usual weeding and tidying up! And don’t forget to check out the roses next time you’re in Silloth they are looking beautiful.

We had a very productive morning planting over 650 Bedding Plants in the Raised Beds and underneath the weeping Cherry Tree so we can look forward to a colourful display this Summer.

In this volunteer week we just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to our wonderful volunteers. They turn out every week, come rain or shine, and help make the Community Garden look beautiful. Why not join us? We meet every Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock. No experience is required and we supply all the tools. We look forward to seeing you!

This morning we were out, in the rain, spreading two dumpy bags of compost amongst the Raised Beds & getting the first plants, trailing Lobelia planted around the edges. Hopefully next week we will get the rest of the bedding, Cosmos & Snap Dragons, planted. Also, check out the Roses when you’re next in the Community Garden they are beginning to bloom beautifully!

Thank you to everyone who came to our Plant Stall this morning, we raised £140 which will go towards more plants for the Community Garden. We also managed to clear the final bits from the raised beds, line the inside of the new posts with plastic & top up the beds with our own compost and some well rotted farm yard manure ready for the Summer planting scheme. Also, if you’re passing take a look at the Irises which are looking spectacular!

TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY 27TH MAY, PLANT STALL
COMMUNITY GARDEN 10AM - 11AM
We have available for a donation…Tomato & Cucumber Plants, Perennials, Fruit bushes, Spider Plants & and few Annuals. Plus Polyanthus taken out of the Raised Beds. They will need TLC through the Summer but will flower again in the Autumn.

Today, despite the slightly dodgy weather, we started emptying the raised beds in preparation for their Summer scheme. We began by lifting the Polyanthus many of which we replanted in the borders along Criffel Street. We also potted some up and they will be available on our Plant Stall next week. With a little bit of tlc through the Summer they will bloom again in the Autumn.

We’ve finished!
All 6 raised beds have new surrounds of recycled black plastic posts which will not need any maintenance, should last for years and which set off the flowers beautifully. We’d like to thank the Fells & Solway Community Panel, the Town Council, the Silloth-on-Solway Community Shop and the Co-op whose financial support helped us buy the posts. We’d also like to thank Jim & Mark from Jim Scott Joinery who gave their time to install them.
