Yesterday afternoon the sun shone ☀️ so our team put it to good use by making cyanotypes! 🤍 🩵
Wild Skies is running a cyanotype workshop during this year's UnstFest and wanted to test the materials and process before the big day. After our trial run, we're convinced this creative activity will be great fun for bairns and adults alike.
📅 Save the date: Monday 20th July 2.30-3:30pm
📍 Meet at Uyeasound Hall
Entry by donation
Under 8s must be accompanied by an adult
These photos show the process from start to finish:
🧹 First, two chemicals are mixed together to create a light-sensitive solution called a sensitiser, which is brushed onto paper (don't worry – we'll prepare this part in advance).
🌿 Next, create your design using natural objects with interesting shapes such as flowers, leaves or feathers, or make your own image on a transparent acetate sheet. For our trial, we even made a cyanotype selfie 😄
☀️ The design is then placed onto the sensitised paper and exposed to UV light for a few minutes.
💧 The paper is washed in water to reveal the image.
🌬️ Finally, it's hung out to dry, leaving a beautiful blue-and-white print to take home.
We can't wait to share this fascinating process with you at UnstFest. Who's coming along to give it a try?
