Wishing Amelia Well: Our Pioneering Young Leader Moves On.

Last month we said goodbye to Amelia Griffiths, one of our pioneering female Young Leaders, as she moved away from Selby ahead of starting university in September. Before she tackles her all-important A-levels and begins the next chapter of her life, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate everything she brought to Vale of York Athletic Community.

πŸƒ Only 2 places left β€” and they're FREE.

We're running a 7-week athletics programme for kids aged 7–11 living in Bubwith and the surrounding area. We have two spots remaining in our group of 12 that we need to fill by end of day tomorrow.

Over the seven weeks children will learn to sprint, long jump, throw the javelin and run distance β€” all properly coached by England Athletics licensed coaches. The programme finishes with a fun competition at Bubwith Sports & Leisure Centre, with certificates and personal best awards. Plus the bar will be open for refreshments.

It costs nothing. All generously funded by Vale of York Athletic Community and Bubwith Sports and Leisure Centre.

Sign up by end of day tomorrow to join the list.

Massive congratulations to our London Marathon 2026 crew! πŸ‘πŸ‘

Saturday morning saw the London Mini Marathon Championships take place with Archie Hadfield enjoying a fantastic experience running for the Yorkshire and Humberside Team.

On Saturday afternoon, Megan Sanderson took on part of the iconic course as part of her school team and had the wonderful privilege of finishing down The Mall. (Check out that close up of her medal!)

On Sunday, the real business began with Ian, James, Beverley and Louise all taking to the streets of London.

Ian : "This was my fourth or fifth London Marathon since 1994 and it was hotter and bigger this year than ever before. The support on the course was out of this world and to be running in the same race as the first ever sub 2 marathon made for a very special day indeed. It was a case of nice and steady for me to hopefully secure my Good For Age place for 2027 so I can come back next year for some more."

James: "It went well and took me 5hrs 3 minutes. The first half was fine but at London Bridge it got tough!"

Beverley: "Oh jeez, it was so hard! Very hot!
5.05 so didn’t go to plan but an extraordinary experience and would recommend Valers to enter the ballot."

Louise: "I was a guide runner for a runner from Special Olympics athletes where I work. We raised over Β£25000 as a team! Our time was 5.31."

Well done all. Such a fantastic achievement and memories made forever! πŸ₯°

Boston Marathon 2026 βœ…οΈ

In Steve's words:
"It was a tough run but I can’t complain at sub 4 hours which was the goal. The bus transport was ridiculous, 1 hour 20 standing in a queue is not best preparation before running a marathon 😑.
Crowds were great, weather great, hills challenging but manageable. Although my quads didn’t agree!"

4 🌟🌟🌟🌟 marathons done and now he's got his sights set on to the Cape Town, Age Grade World Championship Marathon in 5 weeks time! πŸ’ͺ
