Heat Exhaustion = Cool, Drink, Rest.
Heat Stroke = Cool, Call 999, Act Fast.

With temperatures rising across the UK, it’s so important to know the difference between heat exhaustion and heatstroke ☀️🥵
Heat exhaustion can usually be treated quickly with rest, fluids and cooling down; However, heatstroke is a medical emergency and can become life-threatening if not acted on fast.

Knowing the signs could help save a life ❤️
🚨 Call 999 immediately if someone:
• Becomes confused or unresponsive
• Stops sweating despite being very hot
• Has a temperature over 40°C
• Has a seizure or loses consciousness

Stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure, check on vulnerable people, and never leave children or animals in hot cars.

At Hearts in the Stand, we believe that small actions can make a big difference. That's why we've created our simple HEARTS guide to help keep you, your family, friends and neighbours safe and cool.

💧 Hydrate regularly
🏠 Keep your Environment cool
☀️ Avoid the hottest part of the day
🪑 Rest when needed
🧢 Top up your protection with loose clothing, hats and sunscreen
❤️ Support others by checking on those who may be vulnerable
💊 Certain medications can be effected by the heat, making you feel more dehydrated- keep yourself hydrated

Remember, heat can affect anyone, but older adults, young children and those with existing health conditions may be at greater risk.

Stay cool. Stay hydrated. Stay connected. Most importantly, look out for one another.

🏆 OUR TROPHY HAS ARRIVED! 🏆

We are incredibly proud to share that Hearts in the Stand has received our 2026 The UK Small Business Awards Finalist Trophy for Best Community Contribution – West Midlands.

This award is not just for us, it belongs to every volunteer, supporter, partner organisation, community champion, and every person who has attended one of our sessions, this award goes to each and every one of you!

We took this idea to Sandwell Council, who have supported and offered guidance all the way through our journey, we are incredibly grateful ❤️

Libby at SCVO who has also been there with support and guidance, this award goes to you too ❤️

Together, we are creating a more confident, empowered, and life-saving community.
From CPR and defibrillator awareness to emergency first aid education, every session delivered and every conversation had brings us one step closer to making our communities safer.

Today, we were at King George V primary school fair.

What a brilliant turnout! We went to spread the word of who we are and give the students a chance at CPR. The students loved trying to do CPR on our Anne Doll and the parents were so supportive in making sure their children knew what CPR is and why we help.

Our community are our first responders and seeing them be so engaging is amazing to see!

💙🫀 WHAT A SESSION TODAY AT BLACKHEATH LIBRARY! 🫀💙

An excellent turnout today at Blackheath Library as Hearts in the Stand proudly supported Sandwell Council's Safer 6 Campaign with free CPR, AED (Defibrillator), choking response and catastrophic bleed control awareness training.

👏 100% positive feedback received
👏 Community members empowered with lifesaving skills
👏 Increased confidence to act in an emergency
👏 New conversations started around public access defibrillators and community safety

From hands-on CPR practice to learning how to use a defibrillator and respond to life-threatening bleeding, today's attendees showed fantastic engagement and enthusiasm throughout.

Every person who learns these skills has the potential to save a life. Whether it's a family member, friend, colleague or complete stranger, early intervention makes a difference.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, Blackheath Library for hosting us, and our partners in the Safer 6 Campaign for helping us make Sandwell a safer and more resilient community.

Together we are creating a community that is prepared, confident and ready to act when it matters most. ❤️
